How to Use the Vanish Cap in Super Mario 64 (The Best Way)

Nintendo finally released some of the most classic Mario games with Super Mario 3D All-Stars. The three Super Mario games included have proven that these titles can stand the test of time and that players familiar with the game hold these titles in a special place in their hearts. Included in this amazing game is Super Mario 64, the 1996 Super Mario classic with levels players know and love.

Super Mario 64 brought a lot of new things to the Mario franchise, including new power-ups. One of these power-ups is the Vanish Cap.

The Best Way to Use the Vanish Cap

The Vanish Cap has a lot of benefits to using it. This cap comes in the blue action boxes and gives Mario the ability to go invisible. This can help him reach places that were previously untouchable or that have gone unnoticed. With this cap, Mario is able to walk through metal fences and special walls. This will give players access to new places and secret levels throughout Super Mario 64.

Additionally, players will be able to avoid enemies that may have proven difficult. With the Vanish Cap, Mario is able to walk straight through enemies. This can help an ailing Mario avoid unnecessary conflict or keep from dying too soon. Unfortunately, players will need to unlock the Vanish Cap before being able to use it.

The real trick is to remember that the Vanish Cap only functions for 20 seconds. It may be a good idea to scope the area out before jumping right into the level. This way, players will have a better idea of how to best utilize the short 20 seconds they’re given.

Finding the Vanish Cap

The Vanish Cap is only available to players after completing the course, “Vanish Cap Under the Moat.” Although this seems straightforward, you’ll have to find the secret course before even playing it. “Vanish Cap Under the Moat” becomes available once players have drained the moat surrounding Peach’s castle. Draining the moat requires players to have access to the basement, which is only available after players beat the course, “Bowser in the Dark World.”

Once players finally beat “Bowser in the Dark World,” players should head to the basement. The key players recieve after beating “Bowser in the Dark” will let players access the wooden door with a lock. The door leads to a small room with a pool of water inside. Swim through the pool and follow the arrows to find a room with two platforms inside. In order to drain the moat, players will need to ground pound the platforms down into the ground. This will start the draining of the moat.

Once drained, players will be able to explore the vast pit it has left behind. Head towards the waterfall to find a hole that will drop you straight into “Vanish Cap Under the Moat.” The Vanish Cap will be immediately unlocked at the start of the level. Don’t forget to hit the switch before getting the star!

Once the “Vanish Cap Under the Moat” mission is complete, the Vanish Cap will be unlocked throughout the game from this point forward.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is now available on the Nintendo Switch.
