How to Unlock the Lost at Sea Commendation in Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life is one of the best Tall Tales adventures yet. Players set sail in a crossover with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, voyaging across the Sea of Thieves to various locations, including the Sea of the Damned, Sailor’s Grave, Davy Jones’s Tower, and The Black Pearl herself. Five different Tall Tales introduce iconic Pirates of the Caribbean characters in this exciting crossover to bring an end to Davy Jones’s advancement into the Sea of Thieves.

Included in each of the five Tall Tales are a number of Commendations for players to complete and unlock rewards. The Dark Brethren Tall Tale brings players to the Coral Fortress, the secret lair of Davy Jones where he plots to take over the Sea of Thieves. The Coral Fortress is where players can earn many of the Commendations for this Tall Tale.

The Lost at Sea journals can all be found inside the Coral Fortress during the Dark Brethren Tall Tale. To earn the Commendation, players will have to find all 10 journals. They can be a bit tricky to come across, as navigating the Coral Fortress is a challenge in and of itself.

  • Journal One can be found almost immediately upon entrance to the Coral Fortress. Once inside, head toward the back right corner filled with coral and ship debris. Swim underwater and against the destroyed ship. The journal is left beside the wood, above the waterline.
  • Journal Two is found in the long underwater tunnel that Captain Jack Sparrow swims through. The journal can be found just past the two glowing orbs of coral on the left, on top of a rock. A large piece of coral juts out of the rocks just before the journal.
  • Journal Three is located by the pully system that is needed to reach the other side. The journal lying on the opposite side of the mast can be moved by the pully, just in front of orange glowing coral.
  • Journal Four is found aboard The Flying Dutchman. Once players have reached the ship, head down the stairs to the lower room where the knife is located in the map. Retrieve the knife, and head back to the deck. After the dialogue plays doors will open to the captain’s quarters. The journal is located on the left on top of a chest.
  • Journal Five can be found after the long battle aboard The Flying Dutchman. A large door will open, allowing players to progress further into the Coral Fortress. The next room will contain debris that needs to be cut with a sword. In that room, swim to the bottom of the seafloor towards a cage. The journal is inside.
  • Journal Six is inside the same room as the fifth journal. Once the debris is cut, climb onto the wreckage and head towards land. Wooden scaffolding is located along the back-left side of the wall. The journal is underneath it.
  • Journal Seven is found after the multiple siren puzzles. After the battle against the Ocean Crawlers, head towards the sea wall with a large piece of wooden ship debris next to some glowing orange coral. The journal is at the bottom of the seafloor here, embedded in non-glowing coral.
  • Journal Eight is found in the room with siren puzzles that raise the water level. Before heading down the hallway, swim towards a collection of blue coral glowing on the left side. The journal is there, placed among the coral that is not glowing.
  • Journal Nine hides well, but once the conversation with Davy Jones and his court begins it can be found. Listen to the conversation entirely, then head to the end of the hall. The ninth journal on the right side, hidden among some non-glowing coral.
  • Journal Ten is in the room where Davy Jones spoke with his new court. The journal is on the leg of one of the chairs of the table. Collecting this final journal will earn players the Lost at Sea Commendation.

Sea of Thieves is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
