How To Unlock (& Beat) Cult Of The Lamb’s Final Boss

How To Unlock (& Beat) Cult Of The Lamb’s Final Boss

<

Cult of the Lamb is home to many ominous and mysterious creatures but none more so than The One Who Waits. Cult of the Lamb is a roguelike action-adventure game developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital, the same company responsible for releasing the cult hit indie games Enter the Gungeon and Hotline Miami. The game is a strange mix of roguelike dungeon crawling, base building, and management, it will require players to master both of these aspects to be successful. Dungeons in Cult of the Lamb are known as crusades, and players will need to venture into these to acquire followers, materials, blueprints, and many other resources that they will need to use at their base. At their base, players will need to build up and manage a cult, as they will be tasked with keeping their Faith, Hunger, and Loyalty in check.

Cult of the Lamb starts as the protagonist, who is known only as The Lamb, is sacrificed by the game’s four antagonists, the Bishops. However, The Lamb doesn’t exactly stay dead as it meets a mysterious and ominous entity on the other side known as The One Who Waits, who offers the protagonist a second chance at life, but at a cost. In return, The Lamb must venture forth into the world and amass a cult in its name while at the same time slaying all heretics, among them the four Bishops.

The final boss fight in the game is a test of endurance, as it is actually comprised of four distinct encounters back to back. For this reason, players should prioritize playing safely, which should be achievable during the three first encounters, as they are relatively easy when compared with the Bishop fights. Players should aim to get to the fourth encounter with as many intact blue hearts as possible, as there they will be facing multiple attackers, making avoiding attacks much more difficult.

How to Unlock Cult of the Lamb’s Final Boss

How To Unlock (& Beat) Cult Of The Lamb’s Final Boss

Cult of the Lamb has four locations that players must unlock, each home to a different Bishop: Leshy in Darkwood, Heket in Anura, Kallamar in Anchordeep, and Shamura in Silk Cradle. Unlocking these dungeons will require players to have a set number of followers. Darkwood, for example, is the first region that players will access and requires a single follower in their cult. To unlock Anura, players will need seven followers, Anchordeep will require nine, and Silk Cradle will need at least twelve. After unlocking these areas and beating all Bishops, players will finally be able to confront the final boss in the game, The One Who Waits.

How to Beat Baal

Cult of the Lamb Baal Boss Fight

Baal is The One Who Waits’ servant dressed in white and is a relatively easy fight in the cute and creepy Cult of the Lamb, due to its limited moveset. Baal’s basic attacks are a three-hit combo that can easily be dodged or just waited out from a distance. Its two special moves will create spikes bursting out of the ground: one will shoot four lines in opposite directions and can just be dodged, while the other will follow The Lamb and must be outpaced. Baal will sometimes also start floating and summon two ads to aid it. Beating Baal safely is simply a matter of avoiding these attacks and then getting two or three hits in before backing up to avoid their next move.

How to Beat Aym

Cult of the Lamb Aym Boss Fight

Aym is the other servant character in Cult of the Lamb and is a bit more challenging than Baal, as its attacks are a bit harder to dodge. However, by following the tactic of punishing and backing away, players should be able to have plenty of time and room to avoid Aym’s moves. Aym’s basic combo is exactly the same as Baal’s, but his special moves are a bit more difficult to handle.

Aym can also make spikes emerge from the ground that follows The Lamb, and although they track the protagonist more accurately, they are likewise avoided by running and dodging away from them. The other spike ability will shoot three straight lines in quick succession and should be avoided by rolling to the side. His final ability will occur when Aym starts floating as he then shoots three waves of yellow lights, which shouldn’t pose too much of a problem for players that have upgraded their character in Cult of the Lamb.

How to Beat The One Who Waits (Phase 1)

Cult of the Lamb Final Boss The One Who Waits Phase 1

After beating its servants, The One Who Waits will finally face The Lamb himself and will use several variations of Baal’s and Aym’s moves. His spikes attacks can vary between shooting two to three straight lines at the Lamb or shooting four lines at once in opposite directions. The harder skills to dodge are the ones involving yellow light balls, as The One Who Waits can cast four to five waves that are slightly larger than Aym’s and also travel a bit faster. Alternatively, the boss can also create four lines of projectiles around himself that will slowly start rotating, forcing the player to move with it, which they can do more easily by moving away from the boss.

If the boss stands still for a bit longer than usual, players should move back quickly, as he will likely use a skill that sends clusters of yellow light balls in all directions. Although all of this may seem intimidating for such a cute but creepy game, players can make dodging all attacks much easier by preemptively moving back before the boss attacks, as the arena for these encounters is quite large and forgiving of bad positioning.

How to Beat The One Who Waits (Phase 2)

Cult of the Lamb Final Boss The One Who Waits Eyes three

After players defeat The One Who Waits, he emerges once again in his terrifying final form and detaches his three eyes that now become independent attackers. The eyes share the same health pool as The One Who Waits, and their abilities consist of several long-range attacks that can take the form of clusters of yellow light balls, a steady stream of single light balls, or mortar attacks. The best tactic for this phase is to focus on the eye that is more isolated and damage it until it burrows underground. After that, do the same for the other two until they do the same. This phase is the hardest of the four encounters, but if players still have the Resurrection Crown Upgrade up they shouldn’t have too much trouble.

Each time players reach a third of The One Who Waits health pool, one of the eyes will pop and disappear. The first time this occurs, The One Who Waits will send several light balls across the arena, which players can avoid more easily by moving to the opposite side of the boss. The second time an eye pops, the boss will send several lines of light balls across the map, which must be avoided by using special attacks to destroy them, or by timing a dodge so that the invincibility frames negate the damage. After popping the third eye, The One Who Waits becomes vulnerable, and players can finish him off in just a few hits, after which they can choose to kill him or spare him and make him the latest follower of the Cult of the Lamb.
