In 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, players can control 13 different Japanese high schoolers in the 1980s who interact with each other to build a unique narrative. Character interactions are cataloged in a flow chart, and players navigate it by making dialogue choices. The game combines 2D side-scrolling with real-time strategy fighting to create a compelling narrative about a group of teenagers forced to leave the comfort of their everyday lives to fight an alien Kaijuu army. To do this, the teenagers pilot robots with different combat types. The game’s unique structure ensures no two players are likely to have the exact same experience.
There are 13 teenage characters in the game, some native to the 1980s setting and others time travelers from World War II and the future. At the start of the story, players can choose from seven of these characters and must reach certain milestones in the 2D adventure part of the game, called the Remembrance segments, to unlock the remaining six. How to Unlock All Characters in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
Not every character is locked to start the game. In fact, players can choose from seven characters to play and interact with from the beginning that are unlocked by default. These seven characters are:
- Juro Kurabe: universal combat type fighter
- Iori Fuvusaka: universal combat type fighter
- Ei Sekigahara: melee fighter
- Megumi Yakushiji: flight support
- Natsuno Minami: range fighter
- Shu Amiguchi: flight support
- Takatoshi Hijiyama: melee fighter
Players will need to work their way through interactions between these characters, getting to know them and their relationships to one another, in order to unlock the remaining characters and have more variety in their teams.
Players can unlock the remaining characters during the rest of the adventure, which plays much like a visual novel. Here are the characters players will need to unlock, their fighting style, and how to go about unlocking them.
- Yuki Takamiya: Yuki is a flight support character. To unlock her, players need to watch Natsuno’s ending “My Childhood Friend is the MIB” or Keitaro’s ending, “Where are We?”
