How To See Who Viewed Your TikTok Profile (And Why It Isn’t Working)

How To See Who Viewed Your TikTok Profile (And Why It Isn’t Working)

TikTok is one of the best social media platforms for growing your brand/online presence, and one metric that can help with this is seeing who viewed your TikTok profile. More so than almost any other social media app, TikTok has proven to be one of the best places to share content and build a loyal audience. This is largely thanks to TikTok’s For You page — the home page on TikTok that cleverly shows users videos it thinks they’re interested in.

While there’s no magic trick for getting more TikTok views and followers, TikTok offers its users a few tips on how to grow their audience. This includes replying to viewer comments, collaborating with other creators, participating in trending challenges, etc. It’s also important for creators to look at all available analytics. One helpful feature is being able to see who viewed your TikTok profile. For a while, this was standard for all users on TikTok, but the company has since changed things up by establishing follower count limits and making the feature opt-in. Now, it only works if both parties have it enabled.

Why You Can’t See Who Viewed Your TikTok Profile

You used to be able to simply open the TikTok app, tap the ‘Inbox‘ button at the bottom of the screen, and TikTok would show a notification each time someone viewed your profile. It would show the user’s name and the day they looked at your profile, giving you a better idea of who was interested in your content. TikTok disabled these notifications a few years ago in an attempt to make people’s browsing activity more private. Creators would still get notifications if someone likes a video, comments on it, or follows them, but notifications for viewing profile views were no longer present. However, TikTok later brought the feature back, albeit in a more limited form.

In February 2022, TikTok began testing a feature called ‘Profile Views‘ with select users before rolling it out to everyone a few months later. Now, TikTok will show creators who viewed their profile in the last 30 days, but only for viewers who also have ‘Profile view history’ enabled in their profile settings. TikTok notes the feature lets users “see who viewed your profile in the past 30 days and allow others to see that you viewed theirs.” Users who have the feature enabled will also get notifications about profile views. But, TikTok also notes: “You must be 16 years of age or older and have fewer than 5,000 followers to have access to this feature.”

The feature may be on by default, so TikTok users should double check in case they want to turn it off to keep their browsing history more private. To find it, users should go to the menu in their profile, tap ‘Settings and privacy,’ then hit ‘Privacy’ > ‘Profile Views.’ They’ll then see a toggle button for ‘Profile view history.’
