A YouTube code or gift card can be redeemed to activate a free Premium subscription. When a YouTube gift card is added to a user’s account, it tops up their Google Play balance. This amount lets users purchase a variety of services, including YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, YouTube TV, movies and TV shows on YouTube, and other Google Play digital content.
While YouTube offers a one-month free Premium trial for all users, many brands and websites partner with YouTube to provide a free code or gift card from time to time. In 2021, Discord offered three months of YouTube Premium to its Nitro subscribers which could be claimed through a code. Samsung on the other hand currently offers between two and four months of YouTube Premium with select Galaxy devices.
To redeem a YouTube gift card or code, open a browser and sign in to the Google account that will be used to redeem the code. Enter the URL listed on the gift card, or alternatively, head to YouTube’s Redeem web page. Enter the code on the gift card and click on Next. Now select the YouTube subscription or item that needs to be purchased, and in the payment methods, make sure Google Play has been selected. Click on Buy to complete the transaction. While some YouTube Premium codes are valid only for new subscriptions, others can be used to pay for an existing subscription as well. In this case, the gift card adds funds to a user’s Google Play account, which can then be selected as the method of payment. To pay for an existing subscription, redeem the gift card as explained above. To add it as a payment method, follow these steps:
- Open Google Payments and sign in with a Google account.
- Click on the Subscriptions & services tab.
- Find the YouTube paid subscription and click on Manage.
- In the ‘How You Pay’ section, click on Change payment method.
- Select Google Play and click on Save.
Google notes that the gift card must be offered in the same country or region associated with the user’s Google account. If there’s a mismatch, users might get a message saying the gift card isn’t valid.
Redeem A YouTube Premium Trial From A Samsung Device
Samsung is offering a free YouTube Premium trial with select Galaxy devices. Instead of offering a code, Samsung lets users enable the trial from their devices. There’s a four-month trial offer with the Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, S21 FE, Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, and Tab S8. All Samsung Galaxy A, Galaxy M and Galaxy Tab A devices on the other hand will get a two-month free trial to YouTube Premium. Here’s how users can redeem the free trial.
- Make sure the Samsung device has been activated and set up.
- Open the YouTube app and tap on the user profile in the top right corner.
- Tap Get YouTube Premium and log in with a Google account.
- Click on Try it free.
- Enter billing information and click on Buy.
Users won’t be charged for a Premium subscription during the trial period, but they will need to pay for it once the trial is over. There’s an option to cancel a subscription before the trial ends to avoid getting billed. Samsung notes that the free trial is only available for users who haven’t subscribed to YouTube Premium in the past.
