Microsoft Flight Simulator is back with a brand new long-awaited DLC for its players and has recently partnered with Top Gun: Maverick to release some brand new content. However, players won’t have to wait long to get their hands on it, as it was released on May 25th for both Xbox and PC versions of the game.

The DLC adds new low-altitude challenges that players can now attempt, mixed with other challenges straight from the movie. There is even a challenge that requires players to land on an aircraft carrier, pushing their skills to the limit. Now, although the Top Gun DLC for Flight Simulator was delayed to match the film’s release, accessing the now DLC is simple and free for all players on Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Players need to only download the latest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator to their Xbox or PC and access the DLC on the main menu. Players will then be able to select “F/A – 18E Training” to complete the brand new challenges. However, there is more to the Top Gun DLC than just a few challenges. First, there are three challenges for the Super Hornet that will give players practice in several situations, like unrestricted take-offs and high-speed maneuvering.

Five high-speed challenges require players to skim through narrow canyons and vast mountains in Microsoft Flight Simulator. These challenges are not easy by any means and require intense levels of skill and control. Other challenges include the carrier deck landing challenge, which is among the most challenging operation in military aviation. Finally, a brand new hypersonic aircraft can reach speeds of Mach 10 and altitudes of over 140,000 feet above sea level, complemented by a final mission for players to reach the stratosphere.

To cap off the DLC, fans of the Top Gun franchise can also access a Top Gun: Maverick livery for their F/A – 18E Super Hornet to complete the movie’s aesthetic while they soar through the skies and complete the challenges. One unique aspect of those challenges is the lack of flags or checkpoints to hit. Instead, the challenges simply challenge players to reach their goal as quickly as possible and as low as possible. A phantom jet will show players a guaranteed route to reach the end, but they can certainly go their own way and race the jet in Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The Top Gun DLC for Microsoft Flight Simulator has received positive reception but warns that some missions may have slight spoilers for the movie. However, the high-speed maneuvers and decision-making assure that this DLC is for everyone, Top Gun fan or not.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
