These are the many different methods to leveling up a friendship with a player’s Pokémon.
- Battling Without Fainting: It’s better if the Pokémon levels up during battle. Although if they faint, it will decrease the Pokémon’s friendship.
- Buddy Pokemon: Walk with your Pokémon while exploring the region. Every step will slowly increase the bond between the trainer and the Pokémon.
- Berries: Pomeg, Kelpsy, Tamato, Hondew, Qualot, and Grepa berries all increase Friendship. Although, they each do have side effects.
- Taking Care of the Pokemon: Players can head over to the Massage Girl in Veilstone City to give their Pokémon a massage. Alternatively, players can also go to the Spa at the Ribbon Syndicate. Both will increase the Friendship level of the Pokémon.
- Luxury Ball: This item will increase the Friendship level of a Pokémon if they are caught in a Luxury Ball. Players can purchase this item for $1000 from Sunyshore City or the Pokemon League Shop.
- Soothe Bell: Pokemon holding this item will have their Friendship increased. Players can find this item in the Pokémon Mansion on Route 212. There will be a maid on the second floor with the Soothe Bell.
- Vitamins: These will increase a Pokémon’s base stats and Friendship level. This includes HP Up, Protean, Iron, Calcium, Zinc, PP Up, PP Max, and Carbos.
- Winning Super Contest Shows: Players can enter Pokémon Super Contest Shows in Hearthome City. Players can repeat the categories in the Normal Rank to grind for easy Friendship levels.
Players can check their Friendships by visiting Friendship Raters or using the Friendship Checker App. This also affects how strong the move Return is. The higher the friendship, the more damage Return will do.
