How to Get The King Slime Crown in Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV is constantly being updated with ongoing new content. With the release of patch 5.3 looming and a greatly expanded free trial, waves of new and returning players are likely inbound. Many will be curious about which of the jobs is right for their playstyle, and how to even get started in the myriad of quests and features. Still, others will be more concerned about what kind of interesting fashion is available to make their character as stunning as possible.

Final Fantasy XIV runs many different tie-in events with other franchises including Monster Hunter, Yo-Kai Watch, and Dragon Quest. During this time many unique items become available, ranging from special mission gear to useful weapons. If you are lucky enough to be playing during such an event you may be eligible for iconic gear like the King Slime Crown.

Buying and Maintaining the King Slime Crown in Final Fantasy XIV

How to Get The King Slime Crown in Final Fantasy XIV

The King Slime Crown can only be obtained during the There’s Golems in Those Hills live event. Square Enix has only run this during certain times each year, so if it is currently inactive you will need to wait. If the event is going on, head to the Steps of Nald in Ul’dah and find Toughie at x: 8, Y: 12. You can buy the King Slime Crown from her for 57 Gil. The item itself has no stat bonuses and can be repaired by Leatherworkers.

If you are a new player you can start directly in Ul’dah by selecting Gladiator, Pugilist, or Thumaturge as your starting class. Otherwise, you may need to wait until level 15 to travel there safely.

Glamouring New Armor

Since the King Slime Crown has no combat purpose, it might at first seem like a town only item. However, thanks to the Glamour system new top of the line gear can be transformed to appear visually identical to old equipment. This means you can turn powerful helms from Allagan tomestones and Eden raids back into the King Slime Crown. To unlock this power you must complete either the quest A Self Improving Man from Wiscard at Mor Dhona X: 22, Y: 6, or If I Had a Glamour from Swyreim at Western Thanalan X: 12, Y: 14. Both quests can be completed at level 15, but the latter is located in a potentially dangerous level 50 zone.

To use Glamours you will need Glamour Prisms which can be gained from your Grand Company for 200 Grand Company Seals, or at Wolves Den Pier for 100 Wolf Marks; these are a reward for PvP matches like Rival Wings, The Feast, or Frontlines. Level 15 Disciples of the Hand can also craft their own prisms.

Once you have a Glamour Prism you must head to an inn room within one of the major cities. Inside will be the Glamour Dresser. You can consume a single prism to transform an item such as the King Slime Crown. Please note, this will remove the item from your inventory and you will no longer be able to wear it proper. If you want to undo this choice, right-click on the King Slime Crown and select Restore Item, though your prism won’t be refunded.

Casting Glamours

Now that the King Slime Crown is in the Dresser you can produce a Glamour Plate. You have a total of 10 plates, which must be spread across all of your classes and jobs. This won’t be a problem if you are Glamouring just the standalone King Slime Crown. However, if you also want to create a plate that contains any restricted gear, like job artifact armor and any tools or weapons, you will need to make a completely separate plate.

You can only apply your custom plates in towns and sanctuaries, not in the field or in an instanced dungeon. If you happen to transform the wrong hat into the King Slime Crown, you can remove the transformation with a Glamour Dispeller. This can be bought from Apartment Merchants, Beast Tribe vendors, and at Grand Companies.

Additionally, players that have reached the Grand Company rank of Second Lieutenant can use Glamours directly on their Adventurer Squadron members. This will allow a legion of loyal NPCs to each wear their own King Slime Crown.

Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers are available now on PC and PlayStation 4.
