How to Get the Dual Kodachis in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

How to Get the Dual Kodachis in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

With the recent release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 5, players have been blessed with a litany of new items, weapons, maps, and modes. Of course, with every new season of Call of Duty comes new cosmetic bundles to give players a styles edge over the competition.

Since the edition of the Kali sticks, players have been taking a much higher interest in Call of Duty’s melee mechanics. The sticks made for very entertaining streams across popular Twitch streamers. Someone at Activision must be paying extra attention to trends in the community as the edition of Duel Kodachis has a very coincidental parallel to Ghost of Tsushima’s recent success. This article will focus on the most effective way to unlock the Duel Kodachis in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This article will pertain to those who own the full game, but a Warzone strategy will be mentioned.

Unlocking the Duel Kodachis in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

How to Get the Dual Kodachis in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

With each new season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare comes a new set of weapon unlock challenges. Players EVERYWHERE should know the pain of unlocking the Bruen MK9 since it has ascended to the throne of ‘Current Meta’. Most of the time, these challenges follow the same template, ‘Do something oddly specific (x) amount of times in (x) amount of games.’ As far as the Duel Kodachis are concerned players must get 3 knife kills from behind enemies in 15 different games. So how can players best go about completing the challenge?

First things first. Playlists such as ‘Shoot the Ship’ and ‘Shoot House/Shipment 27/7’ are going to be a player’s best bet. Playing these maps are relying purely on the law of averages. Players can safely assume they will inevitably spawn behind enemy lines enough times to rack up the three kills necessary. That or creep up behind a few snipers going for Long Shot kills in the Shoot House spawns. So let’s assume these playlists are unavailable, and one has a Kodachi itch they just need to scratch.

The best thing a player can do is head into quick play multiplayer lobby and focus on objective-based games. Domination and Hardpoint work well for infinite spawns and fast paced gameplay. The reason these game types work is players will be given more opportunity to confidently flank and sneak up on their enemies while their attention is turned towards capturing a flag or heading for the Hardpoint.

The best class set up for this challenge is, of course, a combat knife. Any cosmetic iteration of the combat knife will work. Players who purchased the Lumberjack Pack can confidently run around with the hatchet and complete the challenge all the same. Secondarily, players will want to keep a riot shield on their back. This will increase their chances of scrambling around the map without getting shot from behind, as well as save their skin if someone is too far away to knife. However, players shouldn’t be looking to complete this challenge with anything resembling a positive K/D. They will die and they will die often. Perk wise, Double Time will help with movement speed and sprint duration, Ghost will keep the player hidden & Tracker will show if an enemy has been through any location. A flash grenade will help when pushing a room or closing the distance between a far away enemy. The lethal equipment is completely up to the player, but a throwing knife will make this challenge a bit more fun (and on theme).

So the class is set up, the game has started. Now What? Unfortunately, players will have to resort to some serious camping if they want to get this challenge done in exactly 15 games. Find a corner or doorway that will guarantee high traffic from unaware enemies and wait for one to unsuspectedly walk through. There’s one. Of course, while traversing the map to find such spots, players will notice red footprints from their tracker perk. Follow the bright red ones for an easy backstab. An aware enemy with headphones will most likely hear someone coming, but again, this isn’t about getting a positive K/D. That being said, players should absolutely be wearing headphones (They should be anyway) to get this challenge done as they will hear approaching enemies and know when to pop out of hiding. Once players have racked up what they believe to be enough kills, they’ll want to check their progress mid-game. Do this by editing the current Loadout and scrolling over the Duel Kodachis. The counter should have gone up by one if the player has accumulated enough backstabs. It would be wise to continue using the knife as to keep one’s self in the Michael Myers mood. On a side note, if players have not unlocked the Kali sticks yet, this will be a good opportunity to kill two birds with one knife.

Finally, if players absolutely do NOT want to go through the hassle of unlocking the Duel Kodachis naturally, they can always buy the Eternal Samurai. (Yea, Activision is totally riding that Ghost of Tsushima train) This will grant players a Samurai inspired Riot Shield as well as a short Katana (Duel Kodachi Skin). This, of course, is the ‘easiest’ method should players not mind spending money on Cod points.

Now, as promised, those who only own Warzone will want to hop into a plunder game and stake out money drops and buy boxes. Toss a flash grenade in and cut up unaware squads. This, of course, will take significantly longer and runs a high risk of failure. However, most of these weapons unlock challenges are tailored for those who own the base game.

The Duel Kodachis will act similarly to the Kali sticks. They will have a further range and deal more damage while sacrificing some movement speed. Of course, players are already zooming around the map while equipped with melee weapons, so the hindering to movement speed is hardly noticeable.

Season 5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has delivered on every promise made. Players have been blessed with a moving War Train and an open Stadium. Now they can run around, while not playing Ghost of Tsushima, and keep all the same samurai feels that they’ve come to enjoy.
