Apple Music is a fantastic alternative to Spotify and other music streaming apps — but how in the world do you get Apple Music on Roku? Since its launch in June 2015, Apple Music has evolved into a very competent music service. It has a library of over 90 million songs, thousands of curated playlists, Hi-Fi/spatial audio tracks, live radio programs, sharing features, etc. For the same $9.99 per month price as Spotify Premium, Apple Music is a worthy competitor.
That said, one area where Spotify has long had the upper hand is device compatibility. Simply put, Spotify’s available on almost any device with an internet connection. Seriously. It supports all the big platforms like Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, etc. But it goes well beyond that. Spotify’s also on Sonos speakers, most gaming consoles, and even Spotify’s ‘Car Thing’ accessory. It’s everywhere.
But Apple Music isn’t slacking in the availability department either. Apple Music isn’t just on Apple hardware. You can also listen to it on Android, Windows, Alexa speakers, Google Assistant devices, Samsung and LG smart TVs, and more. And as of April 2022, Apple Music is also available on Roku. So long as you have a fairly recent Roku device, getting the Apple Music app is as easy as opening the Channel Store and downloading it.
How To Use Apple Music On Your Roku
To get started with Apple Music on your Roku device, grab your remote, navigate to ‘Streaming Channels’ on the left-side menu, type ‘Apple Music’ into the search bar, and download the app. The Apple Music app should be available on all current Roku streaming players, Roku TVs, and the Roku Streambar.
Once the Apple Music app is downloaded on your Roku, you can find it on your Home page with all of your other channels/apps. Navigate to the Apple Music channel, open it, and follow the on-screen instructions to log in to your account. If you already have an account, you can enter your email and password and start listening right away. If you don’t yet have Apple Music but want to subscribe, you’ll see instructions on how to sign up. Anyone joining Apple Music from their Roku is eligible to receive a one-month free trial, after which they’ll need to pay $9.99/month for the Individual plan (or $14.99/month for the Family plan).
After logging in to your account, using the Apple Music Roku app works just like it does on any other device. You can listen to the full library of songs and playlists, see lyrics on supported songs, tune in to radio stations, save music to your library, and watch music videos in up to 4K resolution. It’s the same Apple Music experience you’d find on an Apple TV or iPhone — just on Roku instead.
