How to Find (& Catch) Shiny Alolan Meowth in Pokémon GO

Shiny Alolan Meowth will get easier to collect in Pokemon Go. Meowth is the only Pokemon in existence with both a Galarian form and Alolan form. Regional variants have become a staple in the series since the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon. With each of these regional variants, players can expect a new design and new typings to go along with it. In the case of Pokemon Go, Alolan Meowth was introduced with the release of the Friends system back in 2018. As for its Shiny form, it was added to the game during its 3rd anniversary back in 2019.

The reason finding its Shiny form was made a bit easier is due to an upcoming Pokemon Go Spotlight Hour event. These weekly events feature a single Pokemon, and will have their spawn rates increased drastically for an hour. For Alolan Meowth, its Spotlight Hour will take place on September 28th from 6 pm to 7 pm local time. Players will also be able to earn double the amount of candy for transferring Pokemon during this time period. With more Alolan Meowth’s making an appearance, there is a higher chance for players to encounter its Shiny form.

It’s important to mention that Pokemon Go‘s Spotlight Hour does not actually increase the Shiny Odds when it’s active. The Shiny odds will remain at 1 out of 500 for each encounter. It will only increase the number of Alolan Meowth’s spawning at the time. Here’s how players can increase their chances of finding a Shiny Alolan Meowth.

How To Find A Shiny Alolan Meowth in Pokemon Go

How to Find (& Catch) Shiny Alolan Meowth in Pokémon GO
  • Lure Modules: This item will increase the spawn rate of all Pokemon in the area. Players can place it on a PokeStop and friends will also encounter the same Pokemon. Alternate between players with who will place the Lure Module next to save them.
  • Incenses: Similar to the Lure Module, this item will increase the spawn rate of all Pokemon, but only for the player who has it active. More spawns mean a higher chance of coming across a Shiny Alolan Meowth.
  • Run: Players should run away from every Alolan Meowth that isn’t Shiny. This will save time between encounters. This event is only active for an hour, meaning players will need to take advantage of every second.
  • Fast Catch Trick: The Fast Catch Trick in Pokemon Go will allow players to skip the capturing animation for every Pokemon. This is another method of saving time between encounters.

While Alolan Meowth is in the game, Pokemon Go has skipped over Alola’s inclusion in the game and chose the Galar instead. It was a surprise to many when this happened since the game previously released new regions in chronological order. It’s likely an Alola event with more Pokemon from that region will happen in the near future.

Pokemon Go is available now on iOS and Android.
