Like other creature collectors, Bugsnax has players tracking down and collecting 100 different species of Bugsnax using a variety of bait and traps. In the game, players take on the role of a news reporter who has come to Snaktooth Island at the invitation of disgraced explorer Elizabert Megafig. When players arrive, they will find out Elizabert has gone missing, and they must team up with her assistant to coax the locals, called Grumpuses, back to the town of Snaxburg and find Elizabert. Beyond this main storyline, there are several side stories a player can participate in. Often, these side stories will end with a boss fight that allows the player to capture a new Bugsnax to log in their collection or feed to the Grumpuses.
The Mama Mewon, the parent of the Wee Mewon, is the boss in Chandlo’s side mission. The only way to collect the Mama Mewon is to complete Chandlo’s quest, Chandlo Tests His Might. Players will get access to this quest after they meet Chandlo in the Sugarpine Woods and successfully convince him to return to Snaxburg. Players will need to help Chandlo with a few tasks to improve his strength and fighting prowess. At the end of this chain of tasks, the player will come face-to-face with Mama Mewon. Here’s how to find and capture Mama Mewon in Bugsnax.
How to Find and Catch Mama Mewon in Bugsnax
Players will first need to travel to the Garden Grove area of Snaktooth Island to get Chandlo three aggressive, meaty bugs to eat. The easiest ones to catch are Bungers, and players can lure them with Ketchup. Then, they will need to complete the next stage of the quest, dropping five weights on Chandlo’s head as he runs around Snaxburg. Finally, players will want to follow Chandlo to Flavor Falls, where he will lead them across the land bridge and open the door to Mama Mewon’s arena.
Inside the arena is where players will catch Mama Mewon. They will need to trap a Wee Mewon to get her attention and make her angry. The Wee Mewons will follow the player and Chandlo around the arena, making it easy to trap one. Players should place a trap in front of any of the Grumbus statues found around the arena and springing it when a Wee Mewon gets close. Wee Mewons have a tendency to jump and are quick, so players may need to launch the trap a few times before they manage to capture the critter.
Once they have a Wee Mewon in their Snaktrap, players will want to leave it there. If they pick it up, the Mama may not spawn. The trapped Wee Mewon will work as a lure, and Mama Mewon should appear.
To fight and catch Mama Mewon, players will want to stand back when Mama Mewon appears and allow her to charge directly into the statue. This will stun her, giving the player a few seconds to act.
Players should shoot their Snak Grappler at the stalactites on the ceiling of the arena. The stalactites should fall from the impact, crashing onto Mama Mewon and weakening her. Players will need to repeat this process twice.
After the second time pulling down a stalactite, Mama Mewon will get very angry and charge at the player. The player will need to let Mama Mewon catch them, which will cause them to momentarily blackout. When the player wakes back up, Chandlo will come to the rescue and serve as a distraction.
When Mama Mewon charges Chandlo, the player should use the Snak Grappler one more time to pull a final stalactite on top of Mama Mewon. They can then approach her and capture her with their net. To finish Chandlo’s side quest, players will need to feed Mama Mewon to him.
