How to Disable Cross-Play in Sea of Thieves

How to Disable Cross-Play in Sea of Thieves

When trying to get a pirate fix for PVP, look no further than Sea of Thieves and get completely immersed in all its pirate glory, but with it comes Cross-Play and its love and hate relationship with the community. Some love it because it brings more players to the table and others hate it because of the imbalance it causes on the hardware side of things, among other reasons. Some people are looking to know how to remove the imbalance and play against only Xbox users which is understandable.

Some don’t mind the Cross-Play as it can give an option to play with friends all across different platforms. A recent Cross-Play game that comes to mind is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and more games are looking to go that way as the choice is becoming more prevalent for consoles, PCs, and more. The unfortunate thing for Sea Of Thieves is that for the longest time there wasn’t a known way to turn off Cross-Play voluntarily, until now. Most players had no choice but to do the Cross-Play option but a method has come out of the darkness and we’ll show how it can be done.

To disable the Cross-Play option is a little bit convoluted but we’ll get there. To remove it, it’s done in the settings of the Xbox and not the game itself. This might seem strange but the developers didn’t put the option in the game so it has to be done through the Xbox settings. From there, hit the second option from the top called Account and then go to Privacy & Online Safety which will be on the left side of the sub-menu options that open up. Once inside, Select the Xbox Live Privacy option and go the View Details & Customize option. When this is picked, there will be a bunch of options that will make anyone playing Sea of Thieves understand why we’re here. There’s a Communications and Multiplayer option that will allow players to change who they can play with inside that sub-menu. Change the setting to make it so that people outside the Xbox community can’t connect to the games and it’s done. Most people will blame items like the frame rate and the aim assist as reasons to turn it off although it can be looked at as a challenge. There’s nothing more satisfying than taking out a PC player as a console player.

Sea Of Thieves is available for Xbox One and PC.
