Space battles become incredibly easy when the right parts come together to guard a specific point on your ship. This can be tricky to understand at first once you also figure out how targeting systems work in the game.
You can change your ship’s design by purchasing more ship parts in Starfield from Ship Technician NPCs found in landing zones across many different planets. Places like Neon City on Volii Alpha will have a Technician vendor almost immediately after you exit your vessel. Spending Credits on structures like Habitat Modules can even add important crafting areas like Workbenches to your ship to use while traveling.
How To Make The Most OP Ship in Starfield
According to the original Reddit post, the way to make an OP ship is to make an abnormally shaped vessel whose “central midpoint” actually sits in space. This may seem complicated or impossible to pull off in Starfield. However, this was done originally by creating a ship with an “L” shape, which calculates the furthest two points in the game’s X, Y, and Z axis to an intersection that exists off the vessel itself.
This process does not require you to build up your ship’s overall Mass with extra parts but rather to create an asymmetrical build that tricks Starfield into thinking your ship’s middle section is somewhere right next to the vessel’s longest point. Some examples of this design include the previously mentioned “L,” or a large hollow rectangle whose middle would be an empty space between each edge in Starfield.
The reason why this design with the right ship upgrades can be counted among the best ships boils down to how enemy ship AI targeting works. Higher-level ships you fight will have their most accurate missiles or lasers hit the midpoint of your ship to cause the most damage possible. Ironically, having the middle of your ship be in an empty space only makes an enemy’s “stray shots” connect, causing you to dodge 90% of their attacks in space battles.
Make sure to face your enemies directly to make this trick work; evasive actions might otherwise cause more stray shots to occur and actually hit. Since enemies draw a cube around your ship as it moves to find the midpoint, as long as the center of that calculation has nothing there, you should avoid almost all damage with the most ridiculously OP ship build in Starfield.
