Answering a phone call on an iPhone or iPad when eating, driving, or when the phone is far away is a bit of a struggle. However, iPhone and iPad users can answer incoming calls from afar using multiple built-in options. For example, users can accept or decline calls using their voices, which they could do through Siri or Voice Control. Additionally, users may rely on their AirPods for that or even set calls to be automatically answered.
Apple provides iPhone and iPad users with a rich set of features, and with every new update, users receive some new features and customizations. For example, the new iOS 16 will give iPhone users a brand-new lock screen and new FaceTime and iCloud features. In addition, users will be able to edit and delete sent messages and use SharePlay in iMeessages.
There are multiple methods to answer incoming phone calls without interacting with the iPhone screen. The first method is to set calls to be answered automatically. This method relies on the ‘Call Audio Routing’ feature, which was introduced in iOS 11 and is different from Siri and Voice Control. Users should open the ‘Settings‘ app and navigate ‘Accessibility‘ then ‘Touch’ to find the ‘Call Auto Routing‘ feature at the bottom of the screen.
Answer Calls On iPhone Without Touching The Screen
After heading to the ‘Call Auto Routing‘ setting page, users will be able to find the ‘Auto-Answer Calls‘ option. Users can easily enable this feature to let the iPhone answer calls automatically after a predefined amount of time. However, some users may find this feature unpractical since it might accept calls at inappropriate times. Alternatively, users may use their wired EarPods or wireless AirPods to take the call if they’re already using them when the phone is present. Users may use Siri to get this task done. Users can easily accept or decline calls this way. A ‘Hey Siri, Accept call‘ command will be enough. However, users have to enable Siri first if they didn’t before by navigating to the ‘Settings‘ and then ‘Siri & Search.’
Finally, users could use the ‘Voice Control‘ feature instead of Siri since this method doesn’t require a wake-up command. To start using ‘Voice Control‘ to answer calls, users will have to enable the ‘Full Screen‘ feature for their incoming calls. Then, users should access the ‘Voice Control‘ feature in the ‘Accessibility’ settings menu, tap ‘Customize Commands,‘ and then ‘Create New Command.’ Now, the user will need to pick a phrase to apply the voice control to the iPhone, which may be ‘Accept The Call‘ or ‘Answer The Call.‘ Then, users should use the ‘Run Custom Gesture’ option through the ‘Action‘ menu. At this point, the user will need to mimic the gesture they use to accept a call, which is a swipe. After saving these settings, the iPhone will swipe to answer the call every time the user says the chosen phrase.
