Thanks to growing technology, many social platforms have built-in tools that even those without any video editing experience can use.
Content creators praise TikTok’s short-form video platform for its in-house editing software. The best part is that users don’t have to be professionals to use them. The app features a vast expansion of native tools that are easy to use. That way, everyone can enjoy composing videos. TikTok offers everything from filters to greenscreens, music and captions. In addition, effects such as transitions can give any video a professional touch.
Luckily TikTok provides users with transitional effects directly on their app. Start by opening the app and pressing the ‘+’ to record a new video. Add any effects, filters, or pre-editing and record the video. Capture the footage and press the checkmark to move to the post-edit page. Find and select the ‘Effects’ icon from the menu bar on the right. Locate the row of options at the bottom and select the ‘Transition’ tab. Now the menu will display eight choices for transitional effects, such as ‘Slip’ and ‘Turn off TV.’ Selecting any of these options will apply its effect across the footage. To get the smoothest result, move the white cursor on the filmstrip to a break in the footage where the video changes. Try to start half a second before the transition, so the break evens between the two scenes. The footage will not look balanced if starting too early or too late. Sometimes it will take a few tries to get the transition as smooth as possible. Tap the ‘Undo’ arrow to delete the effect and try again. Once the transitions are in place, tap the ‘Save’ button at the top right to finish the post-editing process. It’s that simple!

The above transitions are an easy way to craft fun and unique effects, but alternative options require no tools–just a little imagination. Some of the most popular videos feature a transitional style where the subject in the video exits one area of the camera view, only to enter from another side of the camera after the transition. Another take on the effect is that the subject turns their head in one direction, and the transition hard cuts them at that angle. For example, the See You Again trend used this technique.
