How To Add An Instagram Poll To DMs And Stories

Instagram users who want to create polls can on Stories and in direct messages. With multi-choice polls, users can know how their followers and friends have voted on a particular topic. Many social networking apps support the use of polls since it’s convenient and easy to use. Polls are also a useful tool for businesses, giving them insights into customer preferences.

Instagram has allowed polls on Stories for some time now, but more recently brought the feature to group chats in DMs. The update, which was rolled out in March 2022, also brought a bunch of other features to Instagram DMs as well. These include the ability to share 30-second song previews from Apple Music and Spotify, the option to “quietly” message friends without sending notifications, and see which friends are online at the top of the inbox.

Adding a poll to an Instagram Story is quite straightforward, and the method is the same on Android and iOS. To begin, create a new Instagram story either by adding a photo or tapping on the Create button. Tap on the emoji sticker icon in the top-right corner and then choose the Poll option from the available stickers menu. Alternatively, type ‘Poll‘ in the search bar if it isn’t visible. Add a question for the poll in the gray bar at the top, and then add answers. Instagram has ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ options by default, but these can be modified. Instagram also allows a total of four answers for each poll. Tap Done after adding the answers and publish the Story by clicking on the Your Story or Close Friends option. Followers will then be able to vote and their responses will be visible to the original creator. Poll results are viewable and shareable on Instagram, and users can do this by opening the Story, swiping up to see the results, and sharing them in a separate Instagram Story by tapping Share Results.

Create Instagram Polls In Group Chats

Creating Instagram polls in group chats is a similar process. Instagram notes that users need to have upgraded to Messenger features on Instagram for the option to be available. Polls can be created for groups of three or more people. To create a poll in a direct message, open messages and type the group name in the search bar. Click on the emoji sticker icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen and then tap on the Poll option. A pop-up window will appear containing text boxes where users can type their question and answers. Tap on the Create Poll button to post it in the group.

In Instagram’s DM polls, group chat participants can vote for multiple answers, unlike in Story polls. They also have the option to change their vote, and even add more options to the poll while it is active by clicking on View poll. Creators can check how others have voted in their poll by opening the group chat. For reference, Instagram does also lets users add a poll sticker to a photo and video in a direct message, but people can’t vote and will need to reply to the message with their answer instead.
