How The NCIS: Sydney Season 1 Finale Cliffhanger Impacts A Potential Season 2

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for NCIS: Sydney season 1 finale!

NCIS: Sydney star Todd Lasance has opened up about season 1’s cliffhanger ending, teasing what it could mean for a potential season 2. The final episode of the show ended with the mysterious Ana escaping NCIS custody, JD (Lasance) breaking her out after a clown kidnapped his son. However, she ended up killing said clown, prompting JD to call the only contact on his phone – who is seemingly Colonel Rankin.

Speaking with TVLine, Lasance explained how the final moments of season 1 opened the door for NCIS: Sydney season 2. The actor indicated the next batch of episodes could play out in multiple ways, especially given how much power Rankin has in the organization. Check out what Lasance had to say below:

What’s incredible about this [reveal] is it is endless as to where they could take it. That is the way to finish a [season].

What I love is that [Rankin] is such an intrinsic part of the organization and controls a lot of our activities, so to have that person be part of, potentially, our biggest threat and the biggest enemy introduced in the whole series — and she has escaped, as well! — it’s like, where they can go with this is phenomenal.

What Could Happen In NCIS: Sydney Season 2?

How The NCIS: Sydney Season 1 Finale Cliffhanger Impacts A Potential Season 2

As of writing, NCIS: Sydney season 2 has yet to be confirmed. The revelation that Rankin may be involved in the show’s overarching story sets the stage for a major confrontation should it get renewed. Season 1’s final minutes also confirm the Ana storyline is only just beginning, possibly signaling it to be a major focus for however long the action drama lasts.

If the series does continue, then it’s possible this revelation will shake up the NCIS: Sydney cast, possibly even leading to a major character’s demise. Since Mackey is confronting Rankin at the very end of the episode, his life could be in danger if things don’t go as planned. It’s also unclear how deep the conspiracy goes, meaning that if the Colonel is involved, another member of the team could be part of it as well.

With the franchise now further expanding thanks to the confirmation of NCIS: Origins, it’s highly likely NCIS: Sydney will continue into season 2. When this happens, audiences may get some answers, but will no doubt have plenty of additional questions once more is revealed. Since plenty of suspense could be ahead for the series, it remains to be seen how this will impact both the story and the team’s dynamic moving forward.
