How Tech’s Death Drives The Story Of Bad Batch Season 3 Revealed By Stars

The stars of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 have spoken about how Tech’s death comes into play in the final season and how it’s affected the rest of Clone Force 99. Tech’s death in The Bad Batch season 2 finale was as much a shock for the audience as it was for the members of Clone Force 99. The aftermath of his sacrifice will not only affect the narrative but the characters’ emotional states as well, altering their dynamic forever – but how, exactly, remains to be seen.

Speaking exclusively to Screen Rant, stars Dee Bradley Baker, who voices the members of the Bad Batch, and Michelle Ang, who voices Omega, shed some light on how Tech’s death will influence their characters and the choices they make in The Bad Batch season 3. Baker said that the stakes in the upcoming season are high, explaining:

“The loss of Tech is a profound one, I think it ups the stakes for what’s at play. It’s very real stakes, we’re not just playing an infinite game here. This is something that has… it’s finite, the stakes are very, very high.
With the loss of Tech, then that does leave a bit of a vacuum
, I think, for Omega – where you have to, as a team, you have to compensate and step in to fill any kind of void or vacuum that comes into play. And so, that does that as well.

But then you lose her, and then you lose Crosshair, and so again there’s this vacuum that’s pulling everyone apart, and the forces are then to get everything back together again. So they’ve gotta go back in, they’ve gotta get her and hopefully Crosshair, we’ll see how that plays out – as we also learn that this is also very important, it has the interest of the Emperor, and that doesn’t look good.”

Baker’s comments about a vacuum in the team make sense; Tech’s expertise and knowledge will undoubtedly change how the Bad Batch operates. Omega, especially, seems to have an important role after Tech’s death, as Michelle Ang explained:

“The loss of Tech was something that I was going to have to hold, and let permeate all of Omega’s performance… It’s not like we could dwell on that as a story point, because there’s so much happening in season 3, there’s definitively a shade of that through everything. And it’s kind of beautiful in a way, because
the legacy of Tech is that Omega can do all these tasks that he taught her
, like using iPads to open doors, and understand systems, and hijack strange vehicles. All of the horrible lessons and training that Tech put her through, erm, have their payoff in season 3.”

Tech and Omega had a strong relationship; he taught her how to fly, how to fix the ship, and how to use technology to her advantage. It’s no surprise that, with Omega captured by the Empire, the skills he taught her will, at some point, come into play. Her grief over Tech’s death will no doubt fuel her resolve this season.

Can Clone Force 99 Recover After Their Season 2 Defeat?

So, what will happen to Clone Force 99 now? With each season, their bond has been fractured. Crosshair left to fight for the Empire in season 1, Echo decided to set out on his own in season 2, and now, after Tech’s death and Omega’s capture, the group has been scattered once more. As Baker also pointed out when speaking to Screen Rant, “The Bad Batch isn’t used to losing. These guys win, and they win spectacularly, and they have fun at it.” Tech’s death changed that forever. Instead of winning, Clone Force 99 lost everything. The Empire finally succeeded in breaking them.

And yet, The Bad Batch season 3 trailer proves that there’s hope. Crosshair can be seen reunited with Clone Force 99 – one shot sees him and Hunter working together. If Crosshair escaped, one can imagine that Omega could be freed from the Empire’s clutches at some point, too, and Echo can be seen in the trailer as well. The Bad Batch has plenty of allies and friends across the galaxy. Tech’s death, as tragic as it may be, may bring them back together once and for all, and his impressive legacy will no doubt have a lasting impact in Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3.
