How Players Could Become Toys In Poppy Playtime

How Players Could Become Toys In Poppy Playtime

Poppy Playtime is best known for the horrifying toys that act as antagonists in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, and the player character could end up becoming one in a future game. As more details of the human experiments that created Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs, and Playtime Co.’s other monsters come to light, it’s looking increasingly like players may share their fate. It’s only a theory for now, but Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 or a further entry in the series could very well make it come true.

Playtime Co. created some of the most popular toys in its in-game world. Kids love Huggy Wuggy in Poppy Playtime as much as they do in real life, which is quite a bit. The company’s founders, Laithe Pierre and Elliot Ludwig, designed them and are among the candidates for their monstrous versions’ creators. Their first-ever toy, Poppy, summoned the player to the factory to free her, but whether she has benevolent intentions or just wants revenge for being turned into a doll remains to be seen.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 confirmed the Chapter 1 theory that humans were used to create its terrifying toys. Its ending leaves the player outside of “Playcare,” a mysterious area connected to the Game Station that determined childrens’ aptitude for the experiments. Poppy Playtime Ch. 2‘s VHS tapes and other secrets offer a few details on how they were performed, as well as the aftermath. They carry disturbing implications for what could happen to the player character in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3, especially since they’re knocked unconscious after their failed escape from the factory.

Will Players Become Toys At Some Point In Poppy Playtime’s Future?

How Players Could Become Toys In Poppy Playtime

In Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, a note in Elliot Ludwig’s office outlines “Experiment 814,” involving a dead rat that was preserved in a solution of poppy flowers.  Even though it failed, subsequent ones like Experiment 1170, Huggy Wuggy, presumably use a similar method, since the author stated that they still believed in its viability. This kind of glimpse into the creation process for Poppy Playtime‘s horrific toys indicates that players will see it first-hand at some point in the series’ future. Combined with the confirmation of humans being used for the experiments, as well as Poppy Playtime Chapter 3‘s teased setting being where viable candidates were taken, the theory that players will end up becoming a toy themselves has some weight.

There are a couple of different ways that the player character could be made into one of Playtime Co’s horrifying toys. Experiment 1006, a mysterious and violent monster who drags away Mommy Long Legs’ corpse after she dies by the player’s hand, is among the experiments that Poppy Playtime Ch. 2 teases Chapter 3‘s monsters. He also appears in Poppy Playtime Chapter 1, so it looks like he’s being set up as a major character that players will eventually meet face-to-face. When they do, he could make them part of him since he’s theorized to do so to other toys. If their original creators are still alive, then they could also subject the player to the same process that created the rest.

If the player character does end up as a toy, then hopefully it wouldn’t mark the series’ end. Even though horror games like Poppy Playtime don’t usually have happy endings, becoming a toy could be a particularly dissatisfying conclusion. Joining the ranks of Poppy Playtime‘s Huggy Wuggy and Mommy Long Legs could be an interesting mechanic, but the games should continue afterward, possibly with a new protagonist. Poppy Playtime has a lot of potential and an abrupt end after the player character becomes a monster could squander it.
