How Omni-Man’s Absence Impacts Invincible Season 2: “A Lot Of Chaos”

How Omni-Man’s Absence Impacts Invincible Season 2: “A Lot Of Chaos”

Without Omni-Man on Earth, Invincible season 2 is set to be a time for massive change. An adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s superhero comic, the hit animated show features a young hero developing his powers and working to protect the Earth. After his father, Omni-Man, secretly murders the Guardians of the Globe, Invincible is forced to stop his villainous father. In Invincible‘s season 1 ending, Omni-Man elects to abandon Earth and leaves his wife and son behind.

In an interview with IGN, Kirkman explained the difference that Omni-Man’s absence will have on Invincible season 2. Mark Grayson’s family will be forever changed, but life on Earth will never be the same. Without Omni-Man or the Guardians of the Globe, Invincible and his friends are the only defenders left. Check out Kirkman’s quote below:

“I think we kind of hit the ground running with a lot of chaos. Mark and Debbie are dealing with a huge betrayal of Nolan and his absence on the planet is something that’s affecting them deeply. Mark is in this place where he was on this trajectory to become this superhero, and everything seemed to be going really well. Now, he’s been shaken to his core. Aside from the betrayal, he’s also left with being the new last line of defense on Earth. He’s the guy that’s the only one strong enough to actually replace Nolan, so he’s kind of thrust further into this superhero world that he may not quite be prepared for, and there’s no end of conflict that’s boiling on the planet that is coming at him nonstop.”

How Losing Omni-Man Will Change Invincible Season 2

How Omni-Man’s Absence Impacts Invincible Season 2: “A Lot Of Chaos”

Invincible season 1 was filled with failure and inexperience. A young and unseasoned Mark is forced to face off against multidimensional threats, otherworldly aliens, and even the enemies in his own home. He often struggles to take down his foes, but it hardly matters. When he falls, he can always rely on his father to come and save the day. With the Guardians of the Globe gone, Omni-Man was the natural choice to replace them since he was strong enough to kill them all.

Without Omni-Man, however, the reality that Mark is left in Invincible season 2 is less than glamorous. The alien protector of Earth is gone, and the other Viltrimites could pose an existential threat to the Earth. A new villain Angstrom Levy is set to torment Mark, and there is no truly experienced defender to stop him. Despite his lack of practice and his — somewhat ironic — lack of invincibility, Invincible will have to serve as the world’s protector. Atom Eve and the other former Teen Team heroes will support him, but the titular hero will lead the way.

Invincible will be on his own for the first time in the upcoming season. He may have his mother and friends, but if the new Guardians of the Globe team fails, defending the world will be Mark’s responsibility. If he fails, there will be no one standing behind him. The stakes are set to be higher than ever in Invincible season 2, and Omni-Man’s absence is the primary cause.
