Disney has released its latest animated film, Wish, which tells the story of a young woman named Asha who hopes to become the apprentice of the magical king Magnifico, but how old exactly is this newest Disney heroine? Wish is the latest musical fantasy film in Disney’s long history of iconic animated movies. It stars Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Alan Tudyk, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Natasha Rothwell, Jennifer Kumiyama, Harvey Guillén, Evan Peters, Ramy Youssef, and Jon Rudnitsky. For those who want to watch Wish, the film is set for a Thanksgiving-weekend release, and is projected to gross $45 to $50 million in its opening weekend.
Disney’s Wish takes place in a fictional kingdom called Rosas. The city was founded by King Magnifico and his wife, Queen Amaya. What makes Rosas unique is the fact that Magnifico has the ability to grant wishes. Therefore, when the people of Rosas turned 18, they attend a ceremony where they give up their wish to King Magnifico, who keeps it locked away in his castle. Then, once a month, Magnifico grants someone’s wish. Wish’s protagonist, Asha, has a desire to become Magnifico’s apprentice because she believes deeply in making people’s wishes come true. Unfortunately, Asha quickly learns that Magnifico may not have the same passion, despite what he says.
Asha Is 17 Years Old In Wish
In the present day of Wish, Asha is 17 years old. During the movie, it is revealed that Asha’s father passed away when she was 12. Therefore, it has been five years since Asha lost her father. Furthermore, because Asha is only 17, she has yet to have her wish ceremony. This means she has not made her wish nor given it to King Magnifico. The movie also reveals that Asha is set to turn 18 in a matter of months. Overall, Asha’s desire to become King Magnifico’s apprentice makes sense considering that she is nearing an adult age.
Asha’s desire to become the king’s apprentice is fueled by something other than her passion for granting Rosas’ wishes. Asha also hopes to ask King Magnifico to grant the wish of her grandfather, Sabino, because it will be his 100th birthday. This means a lot to her because of her close connection with her grandfather, and also the loss of her father. Therefore, when Magnifico refuses, Asha is deeply hurt. Her disappointment only grows when Magnifico reveals that he erases the memories of the citizens’ wishes as soon as they are made, so that he does not have to grant any real wishes and everyone will remain reliant on him.
How Asha’s Age In Wish Compares To Other Disney Characters
When compared to the ages of Disney’s other protagonists, Asha lands very much in the middle. Although Asha is not exactly a Disney Princess, her age is very average when compared to Disney’s royal women characters. Snow White is considered the youngest at 14, while Elsa is 21 at the time of the first Frozen movie. Typically, 16 to 18 is the average age range for a female Disney protagonist, which puts Asha right in the middle. All in all, Asha’s age in Wish is very typical for a Disney animated film.
