Disney’s long-awaited Percy Jackson and the Olympians has finally released its series premiere, with plenty of episodes still yet to be released before the season 1 finale arrives. Following the divisive adaptations of the same-named book series into movies in 2010 and 2013, Disney is trying its hand at Percy Jackson and the Olympians as a TV show, with author Rick Riordan being involved in the series. With Percy Jackson season 1 boasting glowing reviews from critics, including a coveted 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the Disney+-streaming show is already a hit YA adaptation with its premiere.
The two-episode premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 debuted on Disney+ on December 20, exploring the titular character’s origins as a 12-year-old middle schooler discovering he’s actually a demigod. While introducing more of Percy Jackson season 1’s cast of characters at Camp Half-Blood, the first two episodes dive deeper into the nature of Greek gods’ relationships with their demigod children, an intense game of capture the flag, Percy discovering he’s the son of Poseidon, and a quest he must embark on with two fellow campers. Considering Walker Scobell’s Percy has only just discovered the truth of his parentage, Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 still has far more of his first quest to tell.
Percy Jackson Season 1 Has 6 Episodes Left Out Of 8 Total
There are six episodes remaining in Percy Jackson season 1 after “I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher” and “I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom,” out of eight episodes total. While this may seem like a short season, it follows the typical season length of hit Disney+ streaming TV shows such as Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and Loki. The 2023 Star Wars show Ahsoka also shared a similar episode release strategy to Percy Jackson of a two-episode premiere followed by one new installment each week.
Since Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 is largely adapting Riordan’s first entry in the book series, subtitled The Lightning Thief, the episode total is sufficient to cover the events of the 377-page novel. The Disney+ series has already covered plenty of character introductions and an exploration of Camp Half-Blood in its first two episodes, so the remaining six will take Percy on each step of his dangerous quest. Before Percy Jackson’s season 1 finale, he still has to find Zeus’ master lightning bolt, discover who stole it, potentially save his mother, and prevent a war among the Greek gods.
Percy Jackson Season 1’s Full Episode Schedule Explained
After Percy Jackson’s two-episode debut, the series will return with episode 3, “We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium,” on December 27. New episodes of Percy Jackson will be released weekly on Wednesdays at 12 am PT/3 am ET on Disney+, with one new installment debuting each week through the finale. As such, Percy Jackson’s season 1 finale is expected to be released on January 31, 2024.

While Percy Jackson season 2 has yet to be officially renewed by Disney+, the show’s early success indicates that another outing is highly likely. Considering there are six books by Riordan in the main series, the Disney+ TV show adaptation could also go on to have as many seasons if it maintains its acclaim. Consequently, the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 8 likely won’t be the last time that Walker Scobell’s Percy, Leah Jeffries’ Annabeth, and Aryan Simhadri’s Grover battle mythological creatures on the Disney+ show.
