How many episodes does Hawkeye season 1 have, and when will the finale release on Disney+? All the promotional material for the series has framed it as a holiday adventure taking place before Christmas. The Hawkeye trailers showed Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) struggling to balance his hero work with family obligations as he set out to settle some unresolved conflicts from his past and return home to his family in time to celebrate the holiday. Appropriately, Hawkeye is scheduled to release just in time for Christmas as well.
After the Black Widow movie, Hawkeye remained the only original member of the Avengers without a solo project. His Disney+ show will finally grant Clint a chance in the spotlight with the help of another expert archer, Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), who is training as his protégée. Together, they will be confronting past enemies while also fighting against the clock.
Hawkeye will release a total of 6 episodes on Disney+ that are each about 40-50 minutes long. Hawkeye‘s first 2 episodes will premiere together on November 24, and each following week will release 1 additional episode until the finale, which will come out just in time for Christmas on December 22. Like with the MCU’s previous Disney+ shows, Hawkeye will premiere at 12am PST. The series begins with only 6 days left until Christmas, allowing each episode to cover approximately 1 day in a countdown for the approaching holiday. Such a limited time period really grounds the story with the question of whether or not Clint can make it back to his wife and children in time, which makes sense for such a family-oriented character.
Jeremy Renner had originally signed on to star in a Hawkeye solo movie before Kevin Feige decided to make the project a Disney+ series instead. The extended runtime from 2 to 6 hours will likely work a lot better to not only introduce Kate but also develop her relationship with Clint. Their bond provided the backbone for all of their comic book adventures, and any story about them would be remiss without fleshing out such an important dynamic. Since Hawkeye was designed as a miniseries, just like WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it probably won’t return for a season 2. Yet, the spin-off series Echo, about another new character introduced in Hawkeye, is also being developed, which might continue some of the story beats in the show.
Critic reviews for the MCU’s Disney+ shows have so far been mixed, but their overall popularity with fans ensures Hawkeye‘s premiere will likely have a large audience. Although serving as a goodbye to Clint Barton as he deals with mistakes in his past, the show is also much more lighthearted than the MCU’s other series. As family members travel home for the holidays, Hawkeye can serve as ideal entertainment for everyone to enjoy together as they count down to Christmas day.
Hawkeye premieres on November 24, 2021 on Disney+.
