How Maeve Actually Hurt Homelander In The Boys Season 3 Finale

How Maeve Actually Hurt Homelander In The Boys Season 3 Finale

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for The Boys season 3’s finale

Maeve shocks Homelander by actually damaging him in The Boys season 3’s final battle – here’s how she does it, and why future fights against the Seven leader could change. Dominique McElligott’s Queen Maeve has been gunning for Homelander ever since The Boys season 3 began, conspiring with Butcher to find a weapon capable of finally ending her miserable ex-boyfriend. That sheer desperation speaks to how powerful Homelander truly is. Queen Maeve is a formidable supe herself, but even she stands no chance in a one-on-one situation – hence why she never made a move earlier despite having ample justification.

Amazon’s The Boys season 3 ending sees Maeve team up with Billy Butcher and Soldier Boy, but when her comrades start knocking lumps out of each other, she bravely faces Homelander alone. Not only does Maeve fare surprisingly well, she actually draws blood. Earlier in The Boys, Maeve claimed she’d never seen Homelander sport a bruise before Herogasm, so giving him a bloody nose in season 3’s finale is undeniably a big deal.

Queen Maeve damaging Homelander was explained back in The Boys season 3, episode 4. The Wonder Woman parody told Starlight she’d been training for four months ahead of a potential fight, meaning she’s in peak condition by the time “The Instant White-Hot Rush” rolls around. More importantly, Maeve deliberately spread rumors that she’d descended into full-time alcoholism and orgies. Homelander isn’t expecting Maeve to be as strong and quick as she is, and it’s this combination of working towards fighting shape and being underestimated that results in Maeve giving Homelander a bloody nose. Homelander still holds a twisted flame for his ex-girlfriend (even admitting he wanted children with her), which works in her favor, and The Boys‘ big bad might also be distracted by Ryan’s injury as Maeve descends upon him fists raised.

Maeve’s Attack Might Reveal A Homelander Weakness For The Boys Season 4

How Maeve Actually Hurt Homelander In The Boys Season 3 Finale

Aside from the successful nose bop, Maeve damages Homelander a second time in The Boys season 3’s finale, shoving a metal drinking straw straight through his ear hole. This attack not only draws more blood, but visibly stuns Homelander for a few seconds. Queen Maeve’s aural assault continues a running theme that began in The Boys season 1 – even the toughest supes aren’t invulnerable on the inside. Translucent possessed one of the hardest exteriors in The Boys, but one stick of dynamite up the butt blew him apart. Soldier Boy’s skin is tough enough to endure heat vision, but Russian scientists found a loophole by injecting his ocular membrane. Maeve’s impromptu ear spear proves Homelander possesses the exact same weakness, which could prove vital for Butcher’s gang in The Boys season 4.

Thanks to his baying mob of far-right supporters, Homelander ends The Boys season 3 knowing he can, quite literally, get away with murder. As his nemesis grows more dangerous (and with limited time left on Earth) Butcher will be desperate for another bite at Homelander. He may not have the luxury of V-24 any longer, but the Boys can at least exploit the same internal weaknesses Queen Maeve found with some well-placed shots to various orifices. The trick will be getting close enough to stick objects into said orifices, but that’s where Starlight will prove invaluable. Officially quitting Vought after The Boys‘ Herogasm event, Starlight can now fight the Seven in a way she couldn’t before. One disorientating solar flare might create enough of an opening for Kimiko to shove something sharper and longer than a straw into Homelander’s ear.
