The Amnesia series is well-known for its ability to cause fear in players, and the newest entry, Amnesia: Rebirth, is no different. Releasing on PC and PlayStation 4 on October 20th, the latest installment in the Amnesia franchise is a great survival horror game. While other games in the series have been fairly short, just how long is Amnesia: Rebirth? The answer depends on a couple of factors.
As Tasi Trianon, players must search for their missing companions in Amnesia: Rebirth. The story will take players into dark caves in the desert and ancient tombs. As with other entries in the series, there is a fear gauge, meaning if Tasi gets too scared, she can begin to hallucinate. Sanity loss mechanics in horror games are increasingly common now, with games like the recent hit Phasmophobia incorporating such mechanics as well. However, this can impact how quickly players progress though Amnesia: Rebirth.
Another factor that contributes to how long it takes to beat Amnesia: Rebirth is puzzle solving. Like the other Amnesia games, Amnesia: Rebirth has plenty of puzzles for players to solve. Some of the puzzles in the game are complex, and low visibility in dark caves and tombs can really slow players down. It’s been a common complaint from people who’ve played Amnesia: Rebirth, but players who solve puzzles quickly may shave off hours of playtime when compared to those who struggle.
How Long Amnesia: Rebirth Really Is
If players manage to solve puzzles in Amnesia: Rebirth quickly, then they can realistically expect to beat the game in about seven hours. However, an average playtime seems to be around eight to nine hours to get through everything Amnesia: Rebirth has to offer. Players who want to explore a little more may not reach Rebirth‘s ending until closer to the ten-hour mark, though.
This means the game is considerably longer than Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, but comparable in length to Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It’s still fairly short, but the length seems fairly ideal for a survival horror game. If players have trouble with the more complex puzzles, or struggle with Tasi’s fear gauge, then their Amnesia: Rebirth playtimes may be longer. However, even if they run into a few problems, most people can expect to beat the game well under the twelve-hour mark.
Fans of the previous games in the series should love Amnesia: Rebirth. Complex puzzles and the fear meter may slow down some players, however. Since an average playtime seems to be around eight to nine hours, most people can expect to beat Amnesia: Rebirth before hitting double digits.
