How Halo Season 2’s New Showrunner Sets Up More Faithful Game Adaptation Explained By Star

Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2’s finale.Halo season 2 is more faithful than its predecessor, and Joseph Morgan (James Ackerson) is happy to explain why. Season 1 was the subject of intense criticism after it failed to adapt the games to a live-action TV show faithfully. After season 1, Paramount+ elected to replace showrunners Kyle Killen and Steven Kane with David Weiner. Since that change, the show has received widespread critical acclaim and an increase in support from audiences.

With the Halo season 2 reviews now fully approving of the show, Morgan points to Weiner as the biggest reason for that change. While speaking with Screen Rant, Morgan cited the “grittier” and “grounded” atmosphere, but he largely focused on the show’s faithfulness. With the slow introduction of game story elements, including the Flood and 343 Guilty Spark, Morgan believes that the show is finally reflecting Halo: Combat Evolved. Check out his full quote below:

“It’s been very pleasing to me. I watched season 1 right around when I was offered the role, it was right after season 1 came out. I watched the first two episodes of season 1, and then I read the first couple of scripts of season 2 on the same evening, I think. First of all, I think it’s a better show. I think it’s a grittier, more grounded show, and it certainly introduces more elements of the canon, and is more the Halo that I remember and love. So it’s really pleasing for me to see people coming around to it, and realizing it’s actually a terrific show now, and really much more like what we sat on a sofa with a controller in our hand and watching a little small 2D screen playing. It’s great.”
