How Dancing With The Stars’ ‘90s Night Relay Dances Will Work (Spoilers)

Dancing with the Stars season 31 ’90s Night will feature dance relays which will give the eight remaining couples the opportunity to earn bonus points. In previous seasons, the relay dances sorted the remaining couples into groups. Those groups were assigned dance styles that they had already learned and performed on the show. The couples within the groups competed against each other for bonus points awarded by the judges, which were added to their individual dance scores.

Disney Plus Informer revealed the songs and dance styles for DWTS ’90s Night, which will basically will follow the same format as seasons past. The contestants will compete in four groups of two couples. The winner of each group will earn five bonus points from the judges. All four of the relay dances will be accompanied by a live performance from one of the special ’90s guest artists. Shangela and Gleb Savchenko will compete against Daniel Durant and Britt Stewart. They will dance the cha cha to “Ice Ice Baby,” which will be performed live by Vanilla Ice. Vinny Guadagnino and Koko Iwasaki will face off against Trevor Donovan and Emma Slater, dancing the samba to “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)”, sung live by En Vogue.

There Will Be A Double Elimination on DWTS ’90s Night

How Dancing With The Stars’ ‘90s Night Relay Dances Will Work (Spoilers)

Heidi D’Amelio and Artem Chigvintsev will go toe to toe with Witney Carson and the Broadway-experienced Wayne Brady, dancing the samba to “Shoop,” which Salt-N-Pepa will perform live. Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas will battle it out with Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy, who will return to the ballroom after missing last week’s episode due to COVID-19. They will each dance the salsa to “Ain’t Gonna Hurt Nobody,” accompanied by a live performance from Kid ‘N Play. DWTS ’90s Night will have a double elimination at the end of the episode. The six couples who make it through will compete in the semi-finals on Nov. 14.

DWTS ’90s Night will be a nostalgic trip back in time for viewers, filled with lots of great music and classic dance moves. The dance relays will be an interesting test of the couples’ abilities, as the judges and the audience will be able to make direct comparisons of how the contestants perform various dance styles. In week 5, Shangela and Gleb earned a score of 35 out of 40 points for their cha cha, while their opponents Daniel and Britt earned 32 points. During week 4, Vinny and Koko earned 29 points for their samba, while Trevor and Emma earned 28 points and ended up in the bottom two. In week 6, Heidi and Artem earned 36 points, plus an extra ten from guest judge Michael Bublé for their samba, while Wayne and Witney earned their first perfect score of 40 points for theirs in week 5. Interestingly, Charli, Mark, Gabby, and Val have never performed the salsa on the show before. Perhaps they are being challenged because they have been frontrunners throughout the competition so far.

It’s expected that the ’90s Night dance relays will be an exciting addition to the competition. The DWTS Halloween Night team dances had a huge impact on the leaderboard as they both helped and hurt couples, depending on their scores for their individual routines. The dance relay bonus points will be crucial for the couples to survive the double elimination and make it to the semi-finals. Each episode of Dancing with the Stars season 31 has been full of surprises, and ’90s Night is shaping up to be another possible shocker.
