House Of The Dragon Season 2 Filming Wraps As HBO Eyes Mid-2024 Release Date

House of the Dragon season 2 wraps its filming as Max tries to push the show forward for 2024. The Game of Thrones spinoff began its first season in the summer of 2022, where it was met with extreme popularity and critical praise. In less than a week after its August 21 release, HBO officially announced the renewal of House of the Dragon for season 2, which has subsequently been in development.

House of the Dragon finishes filming this week. In an Instagram post from Steve Toussaint, the actor revealed this week marked “A wrap on Steve!” Toussaint expressed excitement towards the upcoming House of the Dragon season 2.

The post did not reveal many details of House of the Dragon season 2, but rather just showed a picture of Toussaint’s trailer, along with a selfie and a sunset image. The actor’s statement did acknowledge the set’s overall completion, however, by stating the series is “in the hands of editors, SFX folk, and whoever else.”

How House of the Dragon Has Avoided Strike Issues

While Toussaint’s statement did not reveal an exact release date for the series, Max is reportedly targeting a summer 2024 release date. This release date comes surprisingly soon given the scale of the high fantasy series, proximity to House of the Dragon season 1’s 2022 release, and SAG-AFTRA and recently-concluded WGA strikes. Max, along with countless other networks, has seen shows delayed as a result of this strike, including this year’s massively popular The Last of Us.

The show’s aggressive release plan is attributable to the fact that House of the Dragon managed to avoid strike delays. House of the Dragon finished the scripts for its second season before the dawning of the WGA strike, expediting that part of their pre-production. In terms of the filming, House of the Dragon’s actors are UK-based and part of a non-SAG-AFTRA contract called Equity. This meant that while US-based actors were striking, House of the Dragon was able to move forward.

This was great news for Max, who will undoubtedly be reconfiguring their airing calendars in the absence of once-expected shows like The Last of Us and Euphoria. Because those other projects still have to wait for the SAG-AFTRA strike to conclude before they can even start filming, Max will be able to more fully focus on the post-production of House of the Dragon. The summer 2024 release date may still seem ambitious, but with House of the Dragons filming wrapped, Max is much more likely to deliver the next installment on time. ‘
