Horizon Forbidden West’s Thunderjaw Getting Detailed Model Kit

Horizon Forbidden West fans will be able to own and build their own Thunderjaw soon with an upcoming Moderoid Thunderjaw model kit. The mechanized monstrosity has terrorized the hunters of Horizon since the series’ inception, and taking down one of these awe-inspiring killers is one of the game’s more impressive highlights. One fan even immortalized Horizon: Zero Dawn’s Thunderjaw in a custom LEGO build.

While the story and atmosphere of Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel Forbidden West were memorable experiences, one of the main novelties of the series was to fight and survive against the deadly mechanized wildlife, modeled after well-known prehistoric creatures. Arguably the most intimidating enemy in the franchise is the Thunderjaw. Premiering in Horizon’s E3 debut trailer, the Thunderjaws were showcased as one of Horizon’s deadliest and most intricate foes. While extremely dangerous, the Thunderjaw contains several weak points players can meticulously exploit in order to bring it down. However, despite these weaknesses, Thunderjaws are still immensely strong, and players will likely need patience to wear down their massive health bar. This makes it all the more impressive when a Horizon Forbbiden West player defeats an Apex Thunderjaw variant in just three shots.

As revealed by Siliconera, Good Smile Company unveiled a painted prototype for the Horizon Forbidden West Thunderjaw Moderoid model kit at 2022 NY Comic Con. Famous for its Nendoroid and Figma figure lines, Good Smile has an entrenched history of video game-based merchandise, and its Moderoid line of models, typically reserved for mechanical designs, is a perfect fit for Horizon’s robotic T. rex. Veteran Horizon hunters, well versed in Thunderjaw anatomy, will notice the attention to detail Good Smile packed into its model, including the radar apparatus on its back, the side-mounted disc launchers, and the creature’s machine gun jaws. While many Moderoid kits feature a good amount of poseability, it’s unknown how much articulation the Thunderjaw model will have judging by the image. Currently, no release date for the Moderoid Thunderjaw model has been revealed.

Horizon Forbidden West’s Thunderjaw Comes To Life

Being a creature that not even 50 of Horizon’s Watchers could defeat, the Thunderjaw is a specimen worthy of Good Smile’s Moderoid line. Although it still lacks a release date, a preview of the painted model indicates it likely won’t be too long before fans can get their hands on it. Given the recent rumors of a potential Horizon: Zero Dawn remaster or remake, it’s possible that the Moderoid Thunderjaw could coincide with either its official announcement or release.

Hopefully, Horizon fans won’t have to wait much longer to own this impressive Thunderjaw model from Good Smile Company. With all the recent Horizon news and rumors of late, and with fans waiting for a sequel to Aloy’s adventure after Horizon Forbidden West‘s ending, it’s fair to say the fanbase already has a lot to anticipate as it is. Until then, there are likely plenty more Thunderjaws waiting in Horizon Forbidden West for players to battle.
