Horizon Forbidden West: How to Fast Travel

The ability to fast travel has become a standard for any open-world game, and Horizon Forbidden West is no different. Fast travel is unlocked early on during the introductory missions. There are two different methods players can use to perform fast traveling, and each has its perks. However, both fast travel methods can only be used for places Aloy has already visited in Horizon Forbidden West, making exploration a necessity.

Like any ability or skill in Horizon Forbidden West, fast travel needs to be unlocked. Players will need to complete a few missions and discover their first Campfire before fast travel becomes available. Campfires can be used in Horizon Forbidden West to fast travel for free, but they are limited to certain areas. During the third main story mission, “To the Brink“, Aloy will be given two Fast Travel Packs. Fast Travel Packs can be used outside of Campfire locations, but they are consumable resources.

Both fast travel methods are introduced at the beginning of Horizon Forbidden West, but they won’t be very useful until players start exploring and discovering new areas. There are also some spots in between fast travel points that can’t be warped to, so players may need to choose the closest available location on their map rather than their intended destination. Fast travel can be performed either by interacting with a Campfire or using a Fast Travel Pack.

Using Campfires and Fast Travel Packs in Horizon Forbidden West

Once fast travel is unlocked in Horizon Forbidden West, players can use either method to quickly get around the map. Campfires are typically found in settlements and areas with merchants or other NPCs. By walking up to a Campfire and interacting with it, Aloy can travel to any other Campfire in the Forbidden West that has already been discovered. The drawback to using Campfires is that players may have to do some traveling on foot to find a Campfire before fast traveling. However, Campfire fast travel is free, unlike the other fast travel method.

Fast Travel Packs are unlockable items in Horizon Forbidden West that can be used once each and need to be crafted or purchased. The first two Fast Travel Packs will be given to Aloy during the main story, and then the ability to craft them will be unlocked. Each Fast Travel Pack requires 10 Ridge Wood and three Wild Meat, or they can be purchased for 25 Metal Shards each. Fast Travel Packs can be used at almost any time, even during combat as a way to escape. The only time Fast Travel Packs won’t work is during a cutscene or while Aloy is falling.

Regardless of which method players prefer to use, they will need to do a lot of exploration to open up all of the fast travel points. This is made easier by unlocking mounts in Horizon Forbidden West. The first mount will be unlocked automatically, but the other three require players to complete Cauldrons and get machine overrides. Once every area is discovered, players can warp Aloy all around the map to complete missions, obtain new side quests, and gather collectibles in Horizon Forbidden West.

Horizon Forbidden West is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
