Honor Among Thieves 2 Wishlist: 15 Things From D&D It Absolutely Must Include

Honor Among Thieves 2 Wishlist: 15 Things From D&D It Absolutely Must Include

If a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves ever happens, these are the things from the popular tabletop RPG that it must include. While the fantasy film didn’t make an enormous amount of money at the box office, it gained a number of fans when it hit streaming who otherwise might have dismissed the film as a medieval version of a Marvel movie. The quest of Edgin (Chris Pine), Holga (Michelle Rodriguez), and the rest of the party to save his daughter Kira and liberate Neverwinter led to many adventures that felt straight out of a classic D&D campaign, but there’s so much more still to be explored.

Since Dungeons & Dragons has been a successful roleplaying game since the ’70s, there’s been massive amounts of world-building over the decades, making it a rich source of material to mine for ideas. There are so many other creatures, races, spells, and characters, not to mention stories and lore, that have to make an appearance to effectively showcase what has enamored fans of the fantasy game all this time. There are also quite a few things from Honor Among Thieves that fans will want to see again!

15 Return Of The Owlbear

Whatever side of the debate Dungeons & Dragons fans land on concerning whether Doric (Sophia Lillis) should have been able to turn into an Owlbear at all, what’s in agreement is that it was a great creature to see come alive onscreen. The Owlbear only has two major moments in the film, one towards the beginning and one at the very end when Edgin and Co. are fighting Sofina (Daisy Head), but it made enough of an impression to warrant a comeback. It’s certainly an ace in Doric’s tunic whenever the party gets into trouble (which is often).

14 Beholders

Dungeons & Dragons Beholder Official Art

There were several classic Dungeons & Dragons monsters in Honor Among Thieves, from the Gelatinous Cube to Devourers, but one of the game’s most iconic creatures must still appear in Honor Among Thieves 2 – the Beholder. A floating eyeball covered in tentacles each with their own smaller eyeballs is one of the game’s most recognizable foes. This weird D&D monster could top the Owlbear using magic and cunning to defeat its enemies, making it a formidable foe that would be exciting for the party to face.

13 Bard Spells

Without Honor Among Thieves 2 D&D elements like bard spells will never happen. Edgin didn’t get to use anything like “Vicious Mockery” or “Healing Word” in Honor Among Thieves and a sequel should show him using some bardic magic. Of course, the quest, just like the game, would be too easy if there was a spell for everything, and Edgin might have been doing something behind the scenes, but it would be great to see something more than just Chris Pine’s using Charm.

12 Other Dungeons & Dragons Settings Besides The Forgotten Realms

The Forgotten Realms provides a great standard medieval setting for a movie like Honor Among Thieves that’s establishing the characters and the world, but Honor Among Thieves 2 should explore beyond it. There are so many other Dungeons & Dragons settings, including Dragonlance and Dark Sun, that would be fun to see. If the party wanted to leave the medieval or sword-and-sorcery settings, they could visit Ravenloft for horror or Eberron for steampunk.

11 Drizzt Do’urden

Neverwinter Dungeons Dragons Interview Underdark Drizzt

Drizzt Do’urden is probably one of the most famous characters in the Forgotten Realms setting, if not all of Dungeons & Dragons. Though Drow have become a problematic race recently due to their dark skin color being solely related to evil, if there’s a way to have Drizzt included, if even for a brief cameo, it would make a lot of fans happy. The noble ranger is ubiquitous in the Forgotten Realms lore, so not having him in Honor Among Thieves 2 would seem out of place.

10 Immovable Rod & Other Magical Items

DnD Immovable Rod

Honor Among Thieves used several magical items like the Helm of Disjunction, but there are so many more that the party can search for. The Immovable Rod is a unique magical item in Dungeons & Dragons with a button that can, when an action is used to press it, hold the rod in place, defying gravity, and even holding up to 8,000 pounds. It has a lot of interesting uses, from stopping a character from plummeting to their doom to stopping a villain in their tracks.

9 Celebrity DM Cameos

From Stephen Colbert and Patton Oswalt to Vin Diesel and Matt Mercer, there are tons of celebrities who both love to roll and craft intricate stories within the Dungeons & Dragons settings. One of the most famous players, Joe Manganiello, has parleyed his acting career into an exciting side quest as a celebrity DM. Having cameos from celebrity DMs and players would be fun for hardcore fans and even casual fans who had no idea their favorite celebrities were such nerds.

8 Dragonborn, Gnomes & Other Races

Jarnathan in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Honor Among Thieves showed tieflings and their wooden realm, a hobgoblin in the Revel’s End prison, and a snake-like yuan-ti, among others, but many were only included for a few moments. Kriv Norixius was a very impressive dragonborn who only appeared during Edgin and Holga’s hearing before the Absolution Council, and after Jarnathan’s debut, fans definitely want to see more of the aarakocra. Gnomes and halflings have yet to appear at all, so a sequel can really make the world of Dungeons & Dragons feel immense and diverse.

7 “Cure Light Wounds” & Other Cleric Mechanics

Pathfinder cleric heals witch

There are plenty of missing D&D powers in Honor Among Thieves that could have saved the party. “Cure Light Wounds” by a cleric, perhaps, instead of having Simon heal Holga at the end. Clerics are staples of any proper Dungeons & Dragons party precisely because they can heal wounded adventurers, but the class is suspiciously missing from the film. Since spells like this one are one of the most used in the game, it should finally make its cinematic debut.

6 Honor Among Thieves’ Characters’ Leveling Up

Dungeons And Dragons Honor Among Thieves Cast

Assuming that Honor Among Thieves 2 doesn’t just use an entirely different party, then it would be appropriate to show the main characters of Honor Among Thieves leveling up. Simon’s well on his way to becoming a powerful sorcerer, Holga’s probably gained some additional Rage from almost dying, and surely Edgin has a higher Charisma score. Lets see what the party can really do now that they’ve got additional skill points and abilities from their adventures in the first film.

5 The Underdark City Menzoberranzan

Dungeons Dragons Movie Underdark Drow City

The party got to explore some of the Underdark in order to find the Helm of Disjunction, but it’s so much more expansive than what Honor Among Thieves revealed. There are a number of city-states, not to mention the city of Menzoberranzan, that would make great settings for future adventures. It’s one of the most fascinating places in the Forgotten Realms, full of countless creatures and deep lore that would be fun to see in a sequel.

4 Dracolich

Dungeons-and-Dragons-Dracolich

Honor Among Thieves featured two major dragons, and they both looked quite different from the usual fantasy dragons, but it missed the opportunity to show one of their coolest incarnations – a Dracolich. Made from the animated bones of a dead dragon, they’re entirely composed of dark magic and malice. Honor Among Thieves 2 will really make an impression if one of these monstrous creatures appears on the big screen, perhaps working in conjunction with a Necromancer.

3 A Classic Dungeon

Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves heroes walking.

While the party spent a fair amount of time wandering around the Underdark looking for the Helm of Disjunction, they never encountered a classic dungeon. Even the gridded arena of Neverwinter didn’t give off the appeal of an old fashioned dungeon quest from early Dungeons & Dragons. The sequel to Honor Among Thieves should definitely include the party sneaking through the corridors of a tomb or the bowels of a castle, eventually coming across a 10′ x 10′ room with a single Orc guarding a chest.

2 Waterdeep

Heroes of Waterdeep

After saving Neverwinter from Forge (Hugh Grant), Honor Among Thieves 2 should definitely travel to Waterdeep. The Crown of the North is the heart of the Forgotten Realms setting and is populated by numerous races that would showcase Dungeons & Dragon’s incredible diversity. Ruled by a council of anonymous Lords, it’s got plenty of cloak-and-dagger intrigue for the party to become involved in, as well as being home to Khelben “Blackstaff” Arunsun, a powerful archmage who might want something to do with Simon (Justice Smith).

1 More Of Xenk

Rege Jean Page as Xenk in Honor Among Thieves

While it might have seemed like having a righteous do-gooder like Xenk would be a stick in the mud for the party, the self-serious paladin became one of the best characters in Honor Among Thieves. He was last seen stopping Forge’s path when he tried to escape Neverwinter, but there’s no reason he couldn’t encounter the party again on another adventure. In fact, Honor Among Thieves 2 should continue the running gag in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves of Xenk appearing out of nowhere to assist in something difficult and then striding off mysteriously.
