A good Honkai: Star Rail build for Hook is one that optimizes her damage output, intensifying her presence on the field as a team’s striker, be they used as a main DPS or a sub-DPS. The 4-star character from Underworld Belobog is an easy one to obtain, especially when she is featured with higher drop rates in limited-time character banners, such as Seele’s, so getting her is not all that difficult. If players do get her, they should know she is a Destruction character that uses Fire.

With her base stats, she is one of the tankiest Destruction characters available and a good choice for both withstanding damage and dealing it. Though she will not be as effective as a Hunt hero, focused on single-target Critical damage, Hook’s build in Honkai: Star Rail can see her contribute immensely to the team’s damage output while having optimized survivability. That will all depend, of course, on the chosen Light Cone, Relics, Ornaments, and stat distribution given to her.

Best Light Cones For Hook

Honkai Star Rail's The Moles Welcome You Light Cone, featuring Hook and the Moles smiling at someone, whose hand is in the shot, on the floor.

The Honkai: Star Rail Light Cones that Hook equips should match her Path and, as such, be from The Destruction category. The best ones for her are those that boost her ATK stats and, luckily, there are plenty of options to choose from. According to the character’s page on Genshin.gg, the best Light Cone for Hook is On The Fall Of An Aeon. This 5-star Light Cone is a F2P (free-to-play) weapon that can be bought with Herta Bonds in Honkai: Star Rail, which makes it all the better.

It is the best Light Cone for Hook’s build in Honkai: Star Rail as it has a strong base ATK stat (529 at level 80) accompanied by a decent HP stat (1058 at level 80), which adds up to her already impressive HP. On The Fall Of An Aeon increases the user’s ATK by 8% every time they use an attack, up to four times and, whenever they inflict the Weakness Break status on an opponent, the user’s DMG increases by 12% for two turns.

Another 5-star option for Hook’s build is Clara’s signature Light Cone, Something Irreplaceable. While it is harder to obtain, it has a better ATK stat (582 at level 80) and HP stat (1164 at level 80), without sacrificing any DEF points. Its Superimposed ability increases the user’s ATK by 24%.

When they defeat an opponent or are hit, they restore HP equal to 8% of their ATK stat. While this effect decreases their DMG by 24% until the end of their next turn, this is a great way to mitigate unwarranted damage.

Something Irreplaceable has a great stat increase to ATK and, while the damage output can be offset by getting hit or defeating a foe, it allows healers to contribute to the team’s damage and establish a certain flow to the use of Hook’s abilities. With it, Hook can try and deal a lot of damage without defeating an opponent, setting up the ground for the team’s Hunt character to finish them off, while a Preservation hero attracts enemies’ attentions, for instance. Below is a table with Hook’s best build in Honkai: Star Rail, including all Light Cone options, recommended Relic and Ornament sets, ideal stat distribution, and more:

Best Build For Hook In Honkai Star Rail

Light Cone

  1. On The Fall Of An Aeon (Best 5-star & F2P option)
  2. Something Irreplaceable (5-star substitute)
  3. Woof! Walk Time! (4-star option)
  4. The Moles Welcome You (4-star option)

Relic & Ornament Set

  1. Firesmith of Lava-Forging (4 Relic pieces) / Space Sealing Station (2 Ornament pieces – more ATK)
  2. Musketeer of Wild Wheat (4 Relic pieces, exclusively for early-game) or Thief of Shooting Meteor (4 Relic pieces, exclusively for early-game)

Stat Priority

  1. CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
  2. ATK
  3. Fire DMG
  4. HP
  5. Break Effect / Effect Hit Rate

Skill Priority

  1. Ultimate
  2. Skill
  3. Talent
  4. Basic Attack

Despite the availability of the F2P On The Fall Of An Aeon, obtaining 5-star Light Cones can be difficult, so players should have a few 4-star weapons ready as substitutes. A strong Light Cone for Hook’s build in Honkai: Star Rail within that category is Woof! Walk Time!, which can be obtained by spending 390 Hertareum with Herta Space Station’s main vendor. Its stats are significantly lower than those of the 5-star Light Cones, but they are still good, considering it is a 4-star weapon.

Woof! Walk Time!’s Superimposed ability grants a 10% ATK bonus, while increasing DMG to enemies afflicted with Burn or Bleed by 16% – even if this status comes from DoT (damage-over-time). This effect pairs up very well with Hook’s Fire element, which sees a guaranteed Burn whenever she uses her Skill. Another equally great 4-star option for Hook’s build in Honkai: Star Rail is her signature Light Cone, The Moles Welcome You.

This Light Cone sacrifices a bit of the DEF stat (264 at level 80) to improve HP (1058 at level 80), which goes along well with Hook’s stat distribution. Its ability makes the user get a stack of Mischievous when they use a Basic Attack, Skill, or Ultimate, and each Mischievous stack increases the user’s ATK by 12%.

Best Relics, Ornaments, & Stats For Hook

Honkai Star Rail's Hook slightly smiles in the middle. To the upper left is a piece from the Firesmith of Lava-Forging Relic set and, to the bottom right is a piece from the Space Sealing Station Planar Ornament set.

While the choice of Light Cone is more open to player preference, the Relic sets that Hook should equip are not. There is, actually, only one good option for her: Firesmith of Lava-Forging. This Relic set sees Fire DMG increased by 10% with two pieces equipped, which simply boosts the character’s main source of damage.

The four-piece bonus grants a 12% Skill DMG bonus and, after using an Ultimate, the user gets an extra 12% Fire DMG bonus for their next attack. As of now, there truly is no better Relic set for Hook’s build in Honkai: Star Rail.

The Planar Ornament set that Hook should equip is more flexible, as the bonuses they provide should be chosen based on how the character will be used in the game. Space Sealing Station is the immediate choice as it boosts ATK by 12% and, if Hook’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, they get an extra 12% ATK increase. Players can also use Celestial Differentiator or Inert Salsotto to play around with CRIT DMG and CRIT Rate distribution, respectively, if they need extra CRIT damage output.

When it comes down to the best stats in Hook’s Honkai: Star Rail build, players should treat her as a DPS. As such, the priorities should be CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG distribution, ATK, and Fire DMG. If players are using Space Sealing Station, they should look for enough SPD to reach the required 120 to activate the secondary bonus. If players want to give Hook a role more akin to that of a secondary tank thanks to her high HP stat, HP can also be slightly improved.

Skill Priority For Hook

Honkai Star Rail's Hook adjusts her hat on the right, while the game's logo is superimposed to the left.

Hook’s build in Honkai: Star Rail is extremely reliant on intensified damage output and application of her Burn. As such, the first priority when leveling her Traces (abilities) is her Ultimate. This is a heavy-hitting single-target attack and one that grants her Enhanced, which in turn makes her spread her next single-target Skill to adjacent opponents. The next priority should then be her Skill, as it hits significantly hard and inflicts Burn.

Following that, players should consider investing in her Talent, as it deals extra Fire DMG and regenerates 5 Energy when she attacks a Burned opponent. Her Basic Skill is her last priority, as it deals much less damage and is not even spammable in fights. Regardless of the Trace priority in Hook’s build in Honkai: Star Rail, players should eventually level up all of her abilities in order to take full advantage of her powers on the field.
