Homer Simpson & Bender Are Mashed Up Into One Drunkard In Bizzare Art

The Simpsons‘ Homer and Futurama‘s Bender get mashed up into one drunkard in bizarre art. Both characters, one human and one robot, are from beloved animated sitcoms created by Matt Groening which share a rich interplay of references and connections. In 2014, Homer and Bender even shared the screen together in The Simpsons and Futurama crossover which occurred in The Simpsons season 26, episode 6, “Simpsorama,” a portmanteau of both show’s titles.

Some recent fan art shared by Ben the Mashup Man on Instagram combines Homer Simpson and Bender into one drunkard in bizarre art. Check it out below:

The art combines Homer, who is famously fond of beer, with Bender, who is depicted as an alcoholic and a chain-smoker, into one drunkard with Homer’s Duff beer in one hand and Bender’s cigar in the other. Bender’s robot head is also affixed to Homer’s head and torso while combining the extremities of each character.

Why The Simpsons & Futurama Crossover Didn’t Work

Though the fan art is a suitable mashup between the two Matt Groening-created characters who happen to be drunkards, the actual one-episode crossover between The Simpsons and Futurama famously failed. Though the former is one of the most acclaimed and influential animated sitcoms of all time, The Simpsons‘ crossover episodes have a reputation for receiving mixed reception. Furthermore, by the time “Simpsorama” aired in 2014, Futurama had already been canceled twice, and interest in the series was starting to wane. Futurama was, of course, revived a decade later for season 8.

In “Simpsorama,” Bender was the only Futurama character to even appear in the first act of the standard 20-minute episode. By the end, there simply wasn’t enough screen time between the full Futurama and Simpsons cast of characters. As a result, Futurama‘s lead characters Fry and Leela were underused in the crossover episode. Though The Simpsons and Futurama share a creator in Matt Groening and have a history of humor and satire which should have made the crossover a huge hit, there are many factors that led to its failure, its poor pacing being the primary one.
