A new multiplayer mod for Hogwarts Legacy is already in the works just a few days after the game’s release. Although Hogwarts Legacy is incredibly expansive in its world and the ways players can customize their character, the title currently doesn’t offer any form of multiplayer. Previously, other big games like Skyrim have gotten multiplayer mods from outside sources, allowing for more players to join in on the fun together.
According to a recent PC Gamer article, a new multiplayer mod for Hogwarts Legacy is in development from the Together Team, who previously developed the popular Skyrim Together Reborn mod. Called HogWarp, the mod will bring multiplayer to Hogwarts Legacy for up to eight players.
HogWarp is a mod that will focus on “co-op and roleplay,” aiming to provide a more communal experience within the magical world.
How To Get The Hogwarts Legacy Multiplayer Mod
In such early days of the mod, there’s currently only a paid version available for subscribers of Yamashi’s Patreon. However, the team is optimistic that more players will be able to get their hands on it soon. Currently, development is focused on “basics such as spawning characters with the player’s appearance, animations and NPCs,” and Yamashi issued a warning that those who do choose to download the mod at this point in time will be using something that’s likely very buggy.
The Future Of The Hogwarts Legacy Multiplayer Mod
Interestingly, the speed at which HogWarp has been developed can be attributed to Yamashi’s work on the beloved cat game Stray, which uses the same exact engine as Hogwarts Legacy. With this boon to development, it’s likely that progress with the Hogwarts Legacy multiplayer mod could go at a fairly steady pace. However, according to Yamashi, a fully-functioning mod is likely still a few months away.
Like many mods, HogWarp is designed to be further built upon by other creators to suit their needs. While the Hogwarts Legacy multiplayer mod itself won’t contain any extra content besides the functionality for several players, it will provide a foundation for other fans of the game to add their own content. This means that HogWarp has an incredibly large amount of potential when it comes to giving players new things to do in Hogwarts Legacy by acting as a collaborative project baseline.
When it comes to immersive open worlds like Skyrim and Hogwarts Legacy, even though they offer players a lot of options by themselves, they arguably become an even richer experience when a community gets involved to create more content. With a world as magical as the one in Hogwarts Legacy, being able to explore everything it has to offer alongside friends is a fun new way to experience the game. Although the Hogwarts Legacy multiplayer mod is still in its early days, what it means for the future of the game is very promising.
