What To Expect From Wolf Hall: The Mirror & The Light

The original 2015 miniseries focused on Cromwell’s rise to power as chief minister to King Henry VIII, despite not having any nobility of his own. It ended up getting multiple Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series and Best Actor nods for Rylance and Lewis. As for the upcoming show, its focus will be on the twilight years of the minister, leading up to the end of his time under the wings of royalty.

While period dramas like Bridgerton and The Crown focus on an ensemble cast of royalty over the course of many years, Wolf Hall is centered around one particular character, with branching storylines that emphasize his journey. This makes it a unique experience, as the tale has a very particular story it wants to tell. The Mirror and the Light will be the end of that story, giving the original miniseries an epilogue of sorts that rounds out the entirety of Cromwell’s life.

Since the upcoming historical drama is going to be released later this year, it won’t be long until its familiar faces return to the screen in their original roles. The new actors joining the cast will also prove interesting, as their characters may represent the continuation of the royal family even after Cromwell’s time comes to an end. With plenty of new ideas to focus on, Wolf Hall season 2 is shaping up to be an interesting, yet faithful, follow-up to the original.
