Hideo Kojima’s Next Big Project Has Been Scrapped

Hideo Kojima’s Next Big Project Has Been Scrapped

A new interview with Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has revealed that his next major project was recently scrapped. Earlier this year, Kojima Productions teased a big announcement about an unknown project, but that announcement never came to pass.

Rumors have been circulating about Kojima’s next game for a while, with many fans believing that it will be a horror title – perhaps even Silent Hills. Before now, the only official word about the studio’s future projects was when Kojima expressed interest in making non-gaming media. Regardless, the rumors have compounded over time, reaching a new level after a report suggested that Kojima and Konami were patching things up after their messy split in order to work together on Silent Hills for the upcoming PlayStation 5. There has also been speculation that Kojima Productions wants to acquire the rights to the Metal Gear Solid franchise, but Kojima has now put those rumors to rest.

In an interview with Livedoor News translated by Gematsu, Kojima was asked about what’s next for his studio. He stated that the team was working on other new things, but confirmed that a major project of his had just been scrapped. “I can’t say anything since it’s still in the planning stages, but we’re doing various work behind the scenes,” Kojima said. “Just recently, a big project fell apart, so I’m a bit upset about that.” He did not share any details about what this big project was going to be but remarked that things like this happen often in the video game industry.

Kojima also talked about the sales performance of Death Stranding and debunked a few rumors during the interview. He said that the game recouped its development costs and sold well enough to be considered a success. Even before the impending launch of the PC version of Death Stranding, Kojima Productions has secured enough funds to “prepare for what’s next.” Kojima was also asked about recent rumors regarding acquisition and work on Silent Hills and Metal Gear Solid, but he responded by saying that those rumors were “completely false.

With Kojima denying involvement in a new Silent Hills or Metal Gear Solid, fans are left to wonder what this “big project” could have been. However, this doesn’t mean that Silent Hills doesn’t exist; in fact, a credible leaker has just said that it is one of two Silent Hill games in the works. In any case, Kojima Productions clearly has other plans for the future, and fans can still look forward to hearing about those.
