Henry Cavill Warhammer TV Series In Development At Amazon [Update]

Following his latest Superman departure from the DC Universe, Henry Cavill may have found his first post-superhero gig with a Warhammer TV show. The fall of 2022 was a rocky one for Cavill as he made headlines when he returned to the DCU as Superman in Black Adam. However, despite his announcement that he was back full-time, DC Studios revealed this week that a new Superman movie is in the works, focusing on a younger Clark Kent and ruling out Cavill as the lead. This comes the same year as the British actor departed Netflix’s The Witcher after headlining it for three seasons.

However, it appears Cavill may have found his next major genre role as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the former Superman star is being eyed to star in a Warhammer TV series. Set to be developed by Amazon, Cavill is currently attached to the show, which based on the popular sci-fi fantasy miniature board game. The report also reveals that he would be an executive producer of the Warhammer 40,000 adaptation. It’s key to note that this is not Cavill’s next gig, as Amazon has not yet closed the deal to the Warhammer rights. Cavill and his representatives have yet to comment on the Warhammer casting news.

How Warhammer 40,000 Can Give Cavill His Own Franchise

It’s key to take into account that since Amazon has not finalized the Warhammer rights, the series is in the development stages only and has not received a series order. This is one of the latest major IPs that Amazon is possibly getting a hold of, following recent news of a Spider-Man TV universe being in the works at the growing studio. While Cavill would star in and executive produce the Warhammer show, there are currently no writers or showrunners attached to the project. According to the report, Warhammer will be executive-produced through Vertigo Entertainment.

If Warhammer were to go forward on Amazon, this would be a game-changer for Cavill’s career. Over the last few years, Cavill’s fame has continued to grow through his time as Superman, but he has also starred in several major movies, including Mission: Impossible – Fallout and the Enola Holmes films on Netflix. Even though Cavill’s departure from The Witcher was a shocker to the world, it has always been known that the actor is a massive Warhammer fan, having even expressed ideas for a movie adaptation. With Cavill also getting billed as an executive producer, he will be able to have input into the creative direction of the series to some degree.

As shocking as the Superman and The Witcher news have been surrounding the actor, Warhammer can truly be Cavill’s proper chance at a franchise that could last for years. With Warhammer also being his first project where he works on it as both an actor and a producer, this might also take Cavill’s career in a new direction as he continues to grow in Hollywood. The Warhammer gig is definitely coming at an interesting time, only a day after Gunn and Cavill announced that he is not returning as Superman. As 2022 closes out, 2023 will hopefully come with some swift good news about Cavill’s Warhammer series.
