Henry Cavill Returns As Superman For X-Men Director’s Ideal DC Movie Pitch

Henry Cavill suits up as a very different version of Superman in an Elseworlds movie through new DC fan art. While the DCEU movie timeline ended its journey in 2023, James Gunn’s DC Universe is taking its place, with new actors coming to play the Justice League characters. In the case of Superman, David Corenswet is taking over for Cavill, as he will be starring in Superman: Legacy, which is headed to theaters next year.

While Cavill may not be Superman anymore, Matthew Vaugn wants to make Superman: Red Son movie with the British actor, after having worked together on Argylle. It didn’t take long for fans to imagine what Cavill could look like as the alternative iteration of the Man of Steel.

Hasan Kazi brought Cavill’s alternative Superman to life through live-action art, using one of the prominent scenes in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while donning the Red Son costume.

Kibar Art approached the idea of Cavill as Superman through concept art as they welcomed Vaughn’s pitch for a Superman: Red Son live-action adaptation for a DC Elseworlds movie.

Would Superman: Red Son Work As An Elseworlds Movie?

Superman: Red Son has for many years been an Elseworlds arc that fans have wanted to see brought to life in live-action. With DC Studios also committing to making Elseworlds movies and TV shows, something like Superman: Red Son could easily fit into that brand.

However, it is highly unlikely to happen in the next few years as the new DC Universe is about to begin, with Gunn’s Superman: Legacy starting production next month. DC Studios is also most likely not going to want another Superman live-action project happening with the DCEU’s Man of Steel while they are getting Corenswet’s version of Krypton’s last son set up for the next couple of years.

Even if DC Studios were to produce Superman: Red Son in the coming year, Cavill seemingly wouldn’t be free to do it anyway. This is because Henry Cavill is getting busy with big projects like the Highlander reboot and adapting Warhammer as a TV/movie universe for Amazon Studios, which would likely prevent him from doing another Superman project in the foreseeable future. Even if he never plays the Man of Steel ever again, Cavill’s entire Superman run can be relived through Blu-Ray/DVD and on streaming.
