Hellboy Movie Cast & Comic Creator Heading to New York Comic Con 2018

Big Red himself, Hellboy is making the trip to New York for New York Comic Con next month and he’s bringing some of his friends with him, including his comic books’ creator Mike Mignola. Lionsgate will thus use the event to promote its reboot of the Hellboy film series – a project that is scheduled to hit theaters next January and is currently going by the title of simply Hellboy (a shortened version of its original name, Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen).

The Hellboy comic book property was first adapted for the big screen by Guillermo del Toro in 2004 and starred Ron Perlman as the titular demon – a being conjured to earth to wreak havoc by the Nazis in WWII, before he’s rescued and raised to battle supernatural threats instead, as a member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (aka. the BPRD). Stranger Things‘ David Harbour has taken over the Hellboy role for the movie reboot, with Neil Marshall (The Descent, Centurion) calling the shots and Resident Evil‘s Milla Jovovich costarring as the villainous Nimue the Blood Queen.

NYCC has now announced that Harbor and Mignola will be attending the event’s Hellboy panel on Saturday, October 6, along with Harbor’s movie costars Ian McShane (Professor Bruttenholm), Sasha Lane (Alice Monaghan), and Daniel Dae Kim (Ben Daimio). You can check out the official announcement video (which was posted to NYCC’s Twitter account) in the space below.

Hellboy will be one of several fantasy and/or horror offerings to have a presence at NYCC in October, joining upcoming Netflix TV series like The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and The Haunting of Hill House. Seeing as the film’s theatrical release date is only four months away, the odds are in favor of Lionsgate premiering the first Hellboy trailer either during its NYCC panel or shortly before the event (allowing it to potentially start showing in theaters with that weekend’s Spider-Man antihero comic book adaptation, Venom).

A well-received appearance at NYCC will help the new Hellboy to win over those were fans of del Toro’s movies before it and left disappointed that the storyteller never got to finish his Hellboy trilogy, before the franchise hit the do-over button. Harbour has touted Marshall’s film as being a darker, R-rated, and otherwise scarier monster adventure than del Toro’s comparatively whimsical take on the property, so that’s all the more reason to anticipate the movie’s first look footage being unveiled at NYCC.
