Heartstopper Images Show BTS Of Netlflix’s LGBTQ+ Comic Adaptation

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Heartstopper TV series.

In posts overflowing with love for Heartstopper, the cast and crew have shared images capturing their time working on this heartfelt series. Netflix’s latest release is a live-action adaptation of Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper comic series. Both the comic and Netflix series follow Nick and Charlie with their friends as they tackle bullies, friendships, and maneuver through new relationships. Heartstopper explores queerness and relationships in a refreshing way, giving a cute rom-com to those tired of LGBTQ+ stories being riddled with nothing but angst and heartbreak.

In January 2021, Oseman announced to the comic’s passionate fanbase that she was working alongside Netflix and See-Saw Films to develop a Heartstopper TV series. Shortly after this, Netflix revealed the cast that would be bringing these loveable characters to life, giving fans their live-action Nick and Charlie, surrounded by Yasmin Finney as Elle, William Gao as Tao, and Tobie Donovan as a new character, Isaac (who replaces Aled from the comic). The creators decided to leave two of the biggest names in the Heartstopper cast as a surprise for viewers, with Olivia Colman playing Nick’s mum and Stephen Fry lending his voice to the headmaster.

Following the premiere yesterday, the cast and crew were finally able to share their behind-the-scenes photos from Heartstopper. These posts are filled with pride and gratitude, with the cast and crew expressing their thankfulness to have been able to work on such a meaningful series. Just like many fans, Jenny Walser (Tori) is eager to see Heartstopper continue into season 2. Check out the goings-on from the season 1 set in the BTS photos below:

Audiences fell in love with these relatable characters and storylines throughout the series. Heartstopper has both old and new fans raving about the series as it currently sits at a 100% critic review on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 99% audience rating. Netflix’s Heartstopper has been praised for its faithful adaptation of Nick and Charlie’s adorable romance, with several scenes appearing to be near-perfect replicas of their comic counterparts. This was likely aided by Oseman’s heavy involvement in the development of the series, as she wrote all 8 episodes.

For any new fans desperate for more, fortunately, Nick and Charlie’s story doesn’t end with the events of Heartstopper season 1. After its first issue was posted in September 2016, Oseman just kept adding to the universe and continues to do so. Fans can delve further into the world Oseman has created with new novels and illustrations telling stories of these loveable characters as they grow up together and, if the show is successful enough on the streamer, it seems possible that Netflix could pick up Heartstopper season 2.
