Netflix announces the interestingly named TUDUM, a brand new global fan event aimed at previewing its upcoming original slate. Over the past year, Netflix made major strides in stepping up its original content. Though it has long been the top player in the streaming field, the past year has seen competitors like Disney+ and Amazon make major gains on Netflix. In response, Netflix has committed to releasing original movies every week throughout 2021, and it is building up an impressive list of returning television shows.
Netflix’s 2021 has included the debuts of hit original movies like Army of the Dead and the Fear Street trilogy, plus brand new shows like Ginny & Georgia and Shadow & Bone. The last 4 months of the year promise to be just as jam-packed as ever as well. Earlier this week, Netflix unveiled its release calendar for the fall, and it includes some highly-anticipated projects like Red Notice, Army of Thieves, and Don’t Look Up. That didn’t even include the shows expected to return by the end of the year, and it also didn’t touch upon what’s ahead for 2022.
Fortunately, Netflix has the fans covered. On Wednesday, the streamer announced the first-ever TUDUM (named after the Netflix start-up noise), a virtual event spotlighting over 70 upcoming movies, shows, and specials. TUDUM will take place on September 25, starting at 9am PST/12pm EST/4pm GMT/1am JST and KST. Beforehand, there will be special pre-shows spotlighting Korean and Indian series and films along with exciting anime content. The 3-hour event will be broadcast on Netflix’s worldwide YouTube channels, as well as Twitter and Twitch. TUDUM will feature creatives and talent from a whole host of Netflix projects, as well as first looks, trailers, and clips during the interactive panels. Netflix shared a teaser for the event, which gives an idea of just who will be involved.

Netflix first branched out with its own virtual fan events this summer with Geeked Week. That event focused especially on genre projects like The Witcher and Stranger Things, and while both of those highly anticipated shows will factor into TUDUM as well, the event will also put the spotlight on those like Bridgerton and Emily in Paris. Additionally, Netflix will be showcasing some of its biggest movies from the rest of 2021, as well as budding franchises like Extraction and The Old Guard.
In other words, TUDUM has the potential to be as buzzy as last year’s DC FanDome was. It sounds like there will be a little something for everyone, and it could provide some major Netflix news. Fans could finally get a release date for Stranger Things season 4, or perhaps fresh looks at The Umbrella Academy season 3. The speculation can begin now, and be sure to tune in next month to join in on the fun.
