“He Probably Thought, ‘That F**ker’”: Willem Dafoe Regrets Revealing Beetlejuice 2 Spoilers

“He Probably Thought, ‘That F**ker’”: Willem Dafoe Regrets Revealing Beetlejuice 2 Spoilers

Beetlejuice 2 star Willem Dafoe expresses regret over sharing spoilers about his new character. Serving as a sequel to his 1988 cult classic, Tim Burton’s upcoming follow-up movie sees Michael Keaton’s titular bio-exorcist return for a new story. Beetlejuice 2‘s cast includes a mix of returning characters and newcomers alike, with Dafoe previously revealing that his new character serves as a detective in the afterlife after living life as a B-movie action star.

As the Beetlejuice 2 release date inches closer, Dafoe now reveals during a recent interview with The Guardian that he regrets sharing these details about his new character in the film. Few details have been revealed so far about the sequel’s plot and new characters, and the actor evidently wishes he kept his character’s backstory part of this mystery. Check out Dafoe’s full comment below:

“Do me a favour, I said this two days ago, and I regret it, because it occurs to me that Tim Burton is probably one of those people who doesn’t like people to talk about the movie. I think he probably thought, ‘That f–ker, he should have kept his mouth shut!’ “I had a weak moment, ya know! I spilled the beans, as they say.”

What We Know About Beetlejuice 2’s New & Returning Characters

“He Probably Thought, ‘That F**ker’”: Willem Dafoe Regrets Revealing Beetlejuice 2 Spoilers

While Dafoe may have let slip that he plays an undead detective, his character’s name still remains unknown, as does his broader function in the Beetlejuice 2 story. What is clear, however, is that Keaton’s Beetlejuice will return in a prominent role alongside Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara’s Delia Deetz, both of whom were central characters in the 1988 original.

Another notable newcomer is Jenna Ortega, who has made a name for herself in recent years through her starring roles in Wednesday and the Scream franchise. Ortega plays Lydia’s daughter, Astrid Deetz, in the sequel, marking her second collaboration with Burton after Wednesday, on which the filmmaker serves as an executive producer and director. Monica Belluci is also set to appear in Beetlejuice 2, playing the role of Beetlejuice’s wife.

The sequel’s cast will also include supporting characters played by Justin Theroux, Juliana Yazbeck, Gianni Calchetti, Tim Kavanagh, Christopher C. James, Sofia Fernlöf, and Filipe Cates. While the original Beetlejuice ending may not provide too many indications regarding what’s to come, the cast alone is reason enough to be exicted about the sequel. With filming on Beetlejuice 2 now complete, it might not be long until a teaser trailer is released, revealing more about the anticipated project.
