HBO Max’s Minx: Where Else You’ve Seen the Cast

HBO Max’s Minx: Where Else You’ve Seen the Cast

The first season of HBO Max’s Minx recently finished, showcasing Joyce Prigger creating a controversial feminist magazine in the 1970s. The show highlights the misogynistic foundation of the industry as her aspirations get hijacked and warped, though she later learns how to operate in the system to achieve her ends.

Minx brings together a unique cast to tell this story, each with their own particular brand of humor. While there is no news of a renewal yet, viewers can remain hopeful – and in the meantime, they can check out these other TV shows and movies to see the cast elsewhere.

Ophelia Lovegood (Joyce Prigger) – Guardians Of The Galaxy

HBO Max’s Minx: Where Else You’ve Seen the Cast

British actress Ophelia Lovibond stars in Minx as the lead, Joyce Prigger. She is a graduate of Vasser College, who had previously worked at the New Yorker for some time before she decided to strike out on her own and pursue her longtime dream of making her own magazine. Joyce agrees to work with Doug Renetti, publisher for the little-respected Bottom Dollar Publications, though this requires her to sacrifice her message a bit.

Lovibond might be a familiar face to Marvel fans for her role as Carina, the Collector’s slave in Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy. In the latter, she tried to harness the strength of the Power Stone in revenge against her master to no avail. Lovibond can also be seen in a recurring role in CBS’s Elementary as Kitty Winter and the British mockumentary sitcom, W1A.

Jake Johnson (Doug Renetti) – New Girl

Jake Johnson as Doug Renetti in Minx and Nick in New Girl

Starring opposite Lovibond is Jake Johnson as Doug Renetti. While he gives Joyce her big break in publishing her magazine, Minx through his company, Bottom Dollar Publishing. Along the way he ends up perverting her work, hiding her articulate and thorough feminist articles among smut and to some readers, pornography. Despite this, he is not the show’s antagonist, and the two come to work together well enough.

Jake Johnson is probably the most recognizable actor in Minx for his time as Nick on New Girl. The role earned the hearts of viewers around the world for being a lovable, chaotic mess. He’s also well-known for voicing Peter Parker’s Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its upcoming sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which was unfortunately delayed until 2023.

Idara Victor (Tina) – Rizzoli & Isles

Idara VIctor as Tina in Minx and Nina in Rizzoli & Isles

Idara Victor plays Tina, Bottom Dollar Publishing’s trusty secretary. As the show progresses, she shows herself to be Doug’s partner in more than one way, rising in the company to be an editor while also developing a genuine and romantic relationship with him. She is the most guarded character, but she begins to open up near the end of the season, and hopefully, this will continue into season two.

Victor has had parts in several tv shows from recurring to leading roles, including in the TNT crime drama Rizzoli & Isles. She joined the cast as Nina Holiday, a crime scene analyst, in season five before being upgraded to main cast for the final two seasons. She was also part of the AMC drama, TURИ: Washington’s Spies as Agent 355.

Lennon Parham (Shelly) – Playing House

Lennon Parham as Shelly in Minx and Maggie in Playing House

Taking on the role of the classic American housewife in the 1970s in Minx is Lennon Parham as Shelly. She provides a varied voice compared to the other women, Joyce, Tina, and Bambi, and is definitely one of the funniest characters on the show. Shelly comes to work alongside Joyce in developing Minx, though their relationship is strained when Joyce reveals confidential information about Shelly’s marriage and sex life.

Parham is particularly recognizable for previous roles in comedies like Lady Dynamite and Accidentally on Purpose. She created and starred in the USA sitcom Playing House alongside frequent collaborator Jessica St. Clair. Many will also know Parham as Selina Meyer’s yes-woman, Karen Collins in Veep.

Jessica Lowe (Bambi) – The Righteous Gemstones

Jessica Lowe as Bambi in Minx and Lindy Lissons in The Righteous Gemstones

Bambi, played by Jessica Lowe, goes through one of the best journeys throughout Minx. She graduates from vapid model for Bottom Dollar Publishing to active consultant and creative mind for Minx. All along the way, her bubbly personality and generosity continually stole viewers’ hearts, making her one of the most lovable characters on the show by far.

2022 has been a great year on HBO for Jessica Lowe. Not only was she in the main cast for Minx, but she also joined The Righteous Gemstones in a major recurring role. She played Lindy Lissons, wife and business partner to Lyle Lissons, played by Eric André. Lowe can also be remembered as Ginger in Adam Sandler’s 2014 film, Blended.

Oscar Montoya (Richie) – Bless The Harts

Oscar Montoya as Richie in Minx and David in Bless the Harts

Bottom Dollar Publishing’s talented photographer, Richie, is played by Oscar Montoya. While he is rather content in his current station, he does have high hopes of moving up in the world. As such, he’ll take full advantage of whatever situation he’s in, like when invited to a premier pool party by a fan. Richie also learns about the ways of the industry and his coworkers, so much so he knows how to play Doug while negotiating in support of Joyce.

This is Oscar Montoya’s largest on-screen role to date, but he has an extensive background doing voiceovers for animated tv shows. He voiced several characters on Fox’s Bless the Harts, most predominately David, Violet’s best friend. He’s also voiced the character, Quatronostro on numerous episodes of the last season of Adult Swim’s Final Space.

Michael Angarano (Glenn) – Sky High

Michael Angarano as Glenn in Minx and Will in Sky High

When the first few episodes of Minx came out, it really seemed natural that the show might set up Joyce and Doug as love interests. It started with Glenn – played by Michael Angarano – and Joyce breaking up as she forged ahead with her bold plan for a feminist magazine. As such, that romantic void was left empty for some time, but he returned in a more sympathetic mood, and it seems like they’ve begun anew together.

Michael Angarano is likely a familiar face to many nostalgic viewers for playing the protagonist, Will Stronghold, in Sky High, and Elliot in Will & Grace. He started to gain recognition from the 2000 semi-autobiographical film Almost Famous as young William Miller. Most recently, he appeared in a few episodes of PEN15 alongside his wife, Maya Erskine.
