Harry Potter: 5 Ways Taurus Are Typical Hufflepuffs (& 5 Ways They Are Not)

Harry Potter: 5 Ways Taurus Are Typical Hufflepuffs (& 5 Ways They Are Not)

Hufflepuff house has earned a bit more respect in recent years with the release of the Fantastic Beasts movies and the heroic actions of Newt Scamander. Hufflepuffs were always the real good guys. Just. Loyal. Unafraid of toil.

They were ready to stick around and fight against Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts no matter their skill set. Hufflepuffs were good and grounded, just like a Taurus. It also helps that Taurus is an earth sign and Hufflepuff happens to be the earth house in Harry Potter. Their common room is underground and their head of house is the herbology professor.

Typical – Reliable

A good Taurus, like a good Hufflepuff, is reliable. If they say they are going to be somewhere they mean it and they show up. Need someone to do the scut work on a school project? Hufflepuffs are the way to go.

Hufflepuffs aren’t perfect (Ernie Macmillan did enough talking behind people’s backs) but they certainly are the ones that can be expected to show up, be on time, and not make excuses if they don’t. Need someone to come bail you out of Azkaban or prison? Call a Hufflepuff.

Not – Ambitious

Hufflepuff Common Room

Slytherins are known for their ambition, like Taurus. Hufflepuffs, on the other hand, are not. Success will never be as important to a Hufflepuff as not hurting another person’s feelings or getting the job done right.

Hufflepuffs appreciate when their hard work is recognized (see Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) but they don’t look for accolades above all else. A Taurus may always want to grab the brass ring, but a Hufflepuff is more likely to want to make sure everyone stays safe while straining for the prize.

Typical – Stable

Taurus are known for their stability. Drama is not a good look for a Taurus, and that’s how Hufflepuff house roles. Hufflepuff is the only common room never explored in the Harry Potter books and films because no one ever has a reason to break in.

Why would they? Hufflepuff students, like Taurus individuals, are chill and stable. They don’t want to rock the boat, though they are always around to help comfort others after they do. The rock in a person’s life would do well to be a Hufflepuff/Taurus.

Not – No Fondness for Authority

Gryffindor and Slytherin sort of corner the market on having issues with authority, as most Taurus also do. Hufflepuff stands out because they don’t have issues with teachers or authority figures in general (Voldemort and Death Eaters being the obvious exceptions).

Hufflepuffs are more likely to respect authority and work hard to please parents as well as teachers. Hufflepuffs would rather follow the rules than break them. Taurus, on the other hand, aren’t really into following.

Typical – Dedicated

Hufflepuffs, with their hard-working tendencies, mirror Taurus in their dedication to people and causes. Other than Gryffindors, there were more Hufflepuffs than any other house that worked with the DA and showed up to fight against Voldemort and his followers.

If that’s not dedication to a cause it’s hard to say what is. When Hufflepuffs or Taurus pick a cause they are going to stick with it and see it through to the very end.

Not – Stubborn

When a Hufflepuff is wrong they are likely to admit it. Unlike Slytherins, they are unlikely to stubbornly stick to their old views or, like Gryffindors, refuse to take advice or new information.

While a Taurus is likely to stubbornly refuse to take in new evidence, Hufflepuffs don’t let stubbornness get in the way of the truth or success. Hufflepuffs are far more reliable than stubborn. They’ll defend a friend to the end, but not to the detriment of the truth or the situation.

Typical – Dependable

When in trouble it’s a Taurus or a Hufflepuff it’s best to depend on to be there for you. Again, being “just and loyal” certainly covers Hufflepuffs as well as Taurus.

Combine stability and dedication and it’s no surprise that Hufflepuffs are the most dependable characters and relationships. When Hogwarts needed them in the Deathly Hallows, Hufflepuff stood up to be counted. Hufflepuffs, like a Taurus, will be the people to show up on time and with extra snacks for the group.

Not – Resistant to Change

Due to their honesty and dedication Hufflepuffs are the most likely to accept change and new viewpoints than almost any other house. Unlike a Taurus, a Hufflepuff doesn’t resist change, but rather roles with the punches and the new information.

Their lack of stubbornness helps to make sure that they are prepared and accepting of change, unlike most Taurus. The truth is what matters, more than a personal stance. Hufflepuff is always ready to move forward.

Typical – Honest

Whether it’s being honest about their feelings or about a situation, both Taurus and Hufflepuffs are incredibly dedicated to the truth. Hufflepuffs do not hide their anger when Harry steals some of the thunder from Cedric as Triwizard Champion, nor do they hide their dedication to the defeat of Voldemort and his Death Eaters when they show up in droves to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts.

Lying never helped a Hufflepuff achieve their aims and so honesty is always the best policy. Taurus concurs.

Not – Perfectionists

Taurus may strive for perfection but Hufflepuffs do not. Hufflepuffs just believe in trying your best. It’s about the effort put in and the effort put into the project. Hufflepuff would love to have won more House and Quidditch Cups but they don’t define themselves by the perfect success, but rather the showing they made in working towards a joint goal.

If everything isn’t just right a Hufflepuff won’t hold it against you.
