A new Captain America: Brave New World set photo has turned into speculation about Harrison Ford appearing as the Red Hulk in the film, all due to the actor’s pants. Ford will play MCU veteran Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, taking over the role from the late William Hurt, who originated the character in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Will Captain America 4 Really Feature Thunderbolt Ross As Red Hulk?

There has been no confirmation that Ford will be playing Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, but the new set photo is a major tease that might be the direction the character is headed in. Marvel Studios would not recast Thunderbolt Ross after Hurt’s death, especially with such a big name like Ford, if the studio did not have ambitious plans for the character’s future in the MCU. Ross becoming the Red Hulk could be the possible end goal in play, as Ford — at 80 — could pivot to voice acting as the character in his Hulk form in the future.

It would make sense for Ford to play the Red Hulk in the MCU for a number of reasons. The first of those is that such a high-profile actor like Ford would not simply enter the MCU at a late stage of his career to just play a generic government person, as Ford has revealed the reason he was cast in the MCU was due to him wanting to do “something different to what [he has] ever done and pleasing people with it.” Playing Red Hulk would certainly fit that description.

Captain America: Brave New World is basically The Incredible Hulk 2. Ford plays Thunderbolt Ross, an important character in the Hulk’s only solo MCU movie. He will be joined by the long-awaited returns of Tim Blake Nelson as the movie’s main villain, the Leader, and Ross’ daughter, Betty Ross, played by Liv Tyler. Both actors have not appeared in the MCU since their debut in 2008, and with the movie’s rumored plot said to be about the Leader attempting to create an army of Hulks, it is very much possible that Ford will turn into the Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World.
