Harley Quinn Just Set Up The Perfect New Team For Season 4

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Harley Quinn season 3’s finale! The Harley Quinn season 3 finale, “The Horse and the Sparrow,” just opened the door for Harley’s perfect new team in season 4. Over the course of season 4, Harley has been working less with her crewmates Clayface (Alan Tudyk) and King Shark (Ron Funches), both of whom took on independent responsibilities in season 3. Harley and Ivy continued to work closely throughout Harley Quinn season 3, but the finale also saw them decide to pursue different goals.

In “The Horse and the Sparrow” Harley is forced to understand that her ruining of Ivy’s terraforming plan in Harley Quinn season 3, episode 9, “Climax at Jazzapajizza” came from her new interest in being more heroic. This twist was hinted at in Harley Quinn season 3, episode 8, “Batman Begins Forever” when Harley takes on the role of Robin in one of Bruce Wayne’s memories. At the end of the finale, Harley Quinn even joins the Bat Family when they are summoned by the Bat Signal.

The credits of “A Hard Wayne’s Gonna Fall” in the Harley Quinn season 3 finale hint that members of the Doom Patrol could form Harley’s new crew. Rita Farr, also known as Elasti-Woman, and Garfield Logan, known as Beast Boy, are credited as actors in Clayface’s opus. Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) has appeared in DC’s live-action Titans, and DC confirmed Doom Patrol in two different Earths already, while Rita Farr (April Bowlby) is a main character in the live-action Doom Patrol series.

Why Doom Patrol Would Be A Great Fit For Harley Quinn

Now that Doom Patrol members have been acknowledged in the Harley Quinn universe, they would be a much better fit for Harley’s new crew needs. The Doom Patrol characters are in a similar ethical place as Harley, as they often save the day somewhat reluctantly. In many cases the Doom Patrol’s motives are selfish and they are saving themselves or avoiding feeling guilty more than being altruistic. Unlike the Bat Family, the members of Doom Patrol do not tend to view themselves as heroes, rather occupying a similar space to Harley herself as occasionally heroic anti-heroes, at times even bordering on outright villainy, particularly Doom Patrol’s Rita Farr.

The emphasis Doom Patrol places on personal growth, and even multiple trips into characters’ subconscious minds, makes that team even more compatible with Harley Quinn as a leader. The Doom Patrol characters are all traumatized and each struggle with personal demons that Harley Quinn, as a psychiatrist, would be capable of helping them work through. Leading a team in need of those skills would likely prove personally fulfilling for Harley, as she has been increasingly relying on her psychiatrist background in Harley Quinn.

Harley is likely to need a new crew at some point in Harley Quinn season 4. The romantic relationship between Harley and Ivy might be doomed by the two being on opposite sides of the law and morality at the end of season 3, even though they both still want to make the relationship work. With Clayface focusing on his acting career and King Shark busy ruling an ocean kingdom, those two might not be able to help Harley much even if they are open to exploring heroics. She may tag along with the Bat Family for now, but the chaotic members of Doom Patrol might be much more compatible with Harley Quinn both ethically and thematically.
