Harley Quinn Goes Full Cyberpunk in Futuristic DCEU Fan Art

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn goes full cyberpunk in new DC Extended Universe fan art. Harley Quinn has become the most reliable character in the DCEU. The Joker’s frequent accomplice, lover, and once psychiatrist has always been a fan-favorite character in the animations and comics. However, she became even more popular following her live-action debut in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad (2016). Despite lackluster reception to that film, Robbie’s portrayal was beloved. The actor has appeared as Harley Quinn in Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey (2020) and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (2021). It would seem that every time she puts on a Brooklyn accent, her portrayal becomes more acclaimed.

Like Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman or Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Robbie Harley Quinn has thrived amid the ever-changing landscape of the DCEU. While Warner Bros. and DC Films have yet to confirm where the character will appear next, Robbie has more than expressed an interest in playing Harley Quinn in the future. There have been rumors of movies like The Joker & Harley Quinn and Gotham City Sirens, but those haven’t come to fruition. However, Harley Quinn could appear in HBO Max’s Batgirl or The Suicide Squad spinoff series, Peacemaker.

Digital artist Pablo recently put a cyberpunk spin on the iconic DC supervillain, which the artist shared to Instagram. The piece depicts Harley Quinn in her Birds of Prey gear mixed with some excellent futuristic technology. Check it out below:

For the uninitiated, Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction set in a dystopian future focusing on the dichotomy of advanced technological achievement and a breakdown of social order/society norms. Pop culture examples include Blade RunnerGhost in the Shell, and video games like Deus Ex and Cyberpunk 2077. The latter seems to be what most inspires the above Harley Quinn piece, and adding Harley to that game certainly couldn’t hurt. That said, Harley Quinn and her affinity for chaos and disorder are a natural fit for the cyberpunk world.

To reiterate: many feel as if Robbie’s performance in The Suicide Squad is her most faithful portrayal of Harley Quinn yet. As the DC Extended Universe evolves and the animated Harley Quinn series airs its new season, we’ll surely see more fan art featuring Harley Quinn. In the case of picturing the supervillain as a cyberpunk, chef’s kiss. On the off chance The Flash’s upcoming multiverse exploits take audiences to the future, WB/DC should take notes.
