We speak to Hannah Cheramy on the making of From season 2 and Julie’s arc over the course of the season.

Hannah Cheramy Talks From Season 2

Screen Rant: Without going into spoilers, what can you share about where Julie’s story and her relationship with her parents is taking her in From season 2?

Hannah Cheramy: Yeah, season 2 is really good season for Julie. Obviously, it starts right where season one left off, which I just love, because we get to pick up on all of the loose ends from season one. So, it’s been really good to see right away the aftermath of her Mom digging a hole, and her Dad with the house and the tower. Julie, starting in season one, is obviously very, very concerned for both of her parents, and then, once they’re stuck, it’s life or death, and it really, really makes an impact on her, understandably, and it furthers her relationships all throughout season 2. It really helps her bring her family closer to her and understand the value that they have in her life.

What would you say is your favorite aspect of Julie’s story, or the aspect that will resonate with viewers the most?

Hannah Cheramy: I think that in season 2, people are really going to understand Julie a lot more, because she’s not as much the stereotypical teen that a lot of people see her as. I think that it’s going to be really good because she’s much more caring and open, and she tries to have a bigger leadership within her family and tries to get answers out of her parents, and not as ‘Treat me like an adult!’, but because she genuinely wants to know when to be there and help, because she can see them hurting and she has hurt a lot herself, and she understands that she can’t lose them again. She almost lost them, and that just can’t happen again.

What would you say is the biggest change for Julie, compared to season 1?

Hannah Cheramy: The difference between season 1 and season 2 is definitely her reactions to the people around her. She’s very closed off in the beginning of season one, kind of a lone wolf trying to truck it by herself, deal with everything on her own, just not in the best head space obviously, because just coming off of the loss of her little brother, she’s still grieving and still hurting from that.

In season 2, she really is more connected with the people around her, and I think it’s great to see and very refreshing to see her coming from a place of kindness, instead of a place that could be perceived as selfishness.

How do you envision Julie’s story progressing?

Hannah Cheramy: I would love to see Julie, just in general, take on more of an approach of trying to get out of the town. I would love to see her pairing up with other characters, and not just the Matthews’s, but any character. She’s very supportive, and I love that about her. I love that she wants to support her people, but I’d also love to see her branch out. It doesn’t mean she has to go trekking off into the woods to go find the answers, but I’d love to see her really try to find out what this place, because I want to know! So, I’d love to see Julie do that.

As far as Julie’s relationship with her parents, where would you see that going?

Hannah Ceramy: I think it’s really going to resonate with viewers, because they’ve also presumably had rough patches with family members. I think that once they understand the shared trauma that they have, it’s really going to resonate more with them, and they’re really going to see themselves a lot in the family.

I feel like a lot of people don’t particularly like the Matthews family, but I feel like it’s because they are an eye into real life, real people, and real choices that they’ve made. They’re not always going to be perfect, airbrushed people. They are real humans with real emotions and real thought processes, and I think that it’s really cool to their dynamic, especially Jim. He goes out and has his own ideas about this place, Tabitha has her own ideas, Ethan has his quest. All of their relationships together are really interesting to watch.
